Most of you don't know that Western Carolina and Appalachian State have been bitter rivals for decades. I played baseball at WCU in the 80's (actually warmed the pitchers up and the bench). I got my graduate degree from Apple State two years later.
My point is that I know these schools well. I live 50 miles from one and 125 from the other. So here goes:
Rotation # 518 WCU +8 By all standards, Apple State should cake walk, but here is why I don't think they do:
The Catamounts got their ass kicked by an elite Davidson club on Saturday night. I mean those rich boys rubbed the blue collar Cats nose in the floor. Instead of giving up, the Cats will bounce back big tonight. They may not win, but they should stay within the 8.
Apple State is returning from one of their biggest wins in many seasons, beating Wichita State this past Saturday. After a long ride home, they had to make the 4 hour bus ride to Cullowhee to play the seething Catamounts. They are tired, and will be down after their big win.
Earlier this year in Boone (ASU home), the Cats lost by 9, catching 10 1/2. This was in hostile territory, expect a closer game tonight.
Word is that Kevin Martin (Sac Kings), a WCU alum contacted the team and gave them a pep talk after Saturday's debacle.
Guys, I am also going to take WCU in the first half, along with the total. I think WCU comes out firing.
Good luck, and as always, be very careful. ASU has the talent to run away, and maybe they will. I am betting they don't
