    Six-Pack for Monday

-- David Gilliland, polesitter at Daytona, played high school golf with Eldrick Woods.

-- Mark Martin finished second for the 55th time, the most of any driver, ever. He has 35 wins in 675 races.

-- Butler Bulldogs have produced zero NBA players.

-- Arizona State finally won a Pac-10 game, rallying to beat USC in second half.

-- Cincinnati has one Big East win, and they were down 12 at half in that game. Think they'd be better off if they were back in Conference USA?

-- The NBA All-Star Game is hideous. I can't even say one nice thing about it, other than the players have fun.

Monday's List of 13: 13 questions as spring training starts

      13) Why did Red Sox spend $100M for one starter, then fail to sign a closer?

      12) What is the over/under on Frank Thomas hurting his foot running the bases on Toronto's artificial turf? May 15?

      11) What pitcher will the Mets target in July? The starters on their team now are actually worse than last year's.

      10) Will fans in outfield bleachers at Arlington wear helmets when it is Brandon McCarthy's turn in the rotation? Why did the Rangers acquire a flyball pitcher to pitch in that park?

      9) Will the Bronx Bombers actually put Doug Mientkiewicz on the field? They can't do better than him, with $200M payroll?

      8) How will the A's replace Barry Zito's 35 starts?

      7) Will the Devil Rays let Scott Kazmir throw more than 145 innings this year, or will they keep preserving his arm, for the team that will eventually sign him as a free agent?

      6) Which of the three Japanese imports will do the best? The pitcher in the Bronx, the Boston pitcher, or the third baseman Tampa Bay signed (he might get moved to 1B or 2B)?

      5) Will Jason Jennings thrive away from Coors Field?

      4) Will anyone in the NL East challenge the Mets? Anyone?

      3) How tough an act to follow is managing the Marlins? Joe Girardi did great job last year, but now, the next guy is going to be expected to improve on that. Good luck.

      2) At what point will Jeff Weaver miss his pitching coach in St Louis, Dave Duncan? May 15? April 15?

      1) If Lou Piniella thought they had a losing attitude in Tampa, what will he think about Cub fans?

This feature is one of my daily favorites here---and this may be the best yet!

How do you come up with these? Keep em comin!
Actually, GrandPa, we don't. We're just "copying and pasting" from the guy who does come up with it. He's the same guy who does the "Hot/Cold" lists. It is great stuff, isn't it? It sounds as if you enjoy it as much as I do.

Spark started including this in the trends thread years ago. It's just too good to let go.

If our Mods approve an email swap, I'll be glad to let you know where it comes from.

                Good luck tonight, GrandPa!

I can't find one, meaiken. At Dunkel's website, you can find out how they did for last season, but that's all I could find. For instance, in '05-'06 NCAAB, they show they were 73.5% SU and 57.1% ATS. I couldn't find any record of this season anywhere, though.

Maybe one of the guys can tell us if they know about a current record.

                        Dunkel

San Francisco at St. Mary's (CA)
San Francisco has won five of its last six to pull within a game of Gonzaga for second in the WCC. The Dons run began with back-to-back road wins over Portland and San Diego and culminated this weekend with a 14-point win over UC Irvine in a bracketbuster game. St. Mary's beat San Francisco (71-64) on the road back on Jan. 20, but since that time the Gaels have struggled. St. Mary's has dropped five of its last six, including three of its last four at home to Pepperdine (68-66), Santa Clara (63-57) and San Diego (76-72). In their last appearance last Monday, the Gaels shot only 28 percent from the floor and 55 percent from the line in a 55-47 loss at Portland that snapped the Pilots' four-game home losing streak. The Dons look like a good underdog pick (+5 1/2) in this one according to Dunkel, which has San Francisco favored straight up by 3. Dunkel Pick: San Francisco (+5 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                              Pittsburgh at NY Islanders
The Penguins keep on finding ways to win. After winning four straight by scoring at least five goals in each game, Pittsburgh grinded out a 3-2 win over Washington yesterday as backup goalie Jocelyn Thibault turned aside 29 shots for just his third victory of the season. The Islanders have had trouble scoring lately, topping three goals only once in their last seven games. The lack of offense has hurt as New York has dropped four of seven over that span, including a 2-0 shutout at the hands of New Jersey on Saturday. The Penguins look like a good underdog pick in this one according to Dunkel, which has Pittsburgh favored straight up by 2. Dunkel Pick: Pittsburgh (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
