    Six-Pack for Friday

    Bracket Buster/Travel edition

-- UAlbany's flight to Boise was cancelled Wednesday, so team bused to Washington, took two separate flights out west, with five starters and Coach Brown getting to Boise late Thursday. Al McGuire would have been proud.

-- The rest of team was scheduled to arrive Friday, at least six subs, an assistant coach, radio guy and trainer, after they spent the night in Minneapolis.

-- Two seldom-used players and an assistant coach were left home, as travelling party shrunk from 24 to 15, since they could only find fifteen empty seats to Idaho.

-- Another assistant coach is already recruiting in Denver; he will meet the team in Boise.

-- Why is UAlbany recruiting in Denver? Albany is within four hours of NYC, Boston, Philly; they recruit in Denver?

-- If there is bad weather Friday, it is conceivable Albany is going to play Boise State on national TV with five players; they finished a game vs Boston U a few years ago with four players, after starting with seven.

Friday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but...............

      13) Watching Cavaliers-Lakers Thursday, it is obvious that the refs forgot about the no tolerance on bitching rule. Every whistle drew a whine from someone.

      12) With the PGA Tour folding The International tournament, Dean Wilson goes in the trivia books as the last champ of the quirky tournament.

      11) Fran Fraschilla observes that Texas A&M's practices the day before a game are harder than any team's he has watched.

      10) Bill Cowher signed on with CBS as a studio analyst, but they didn't release anyone, so he won't get to talk much.

      9) Interesting article this week on espn.com about Dominican trainer Angel Presinal, who gets ballplayers in shape down in Latin America each winter, but who isn't welcome around the major league ballparks. Interesting reading.

      8) The way Tiki Barber feels compelled to constantly bash his former coach, Tom Coughlin, I feel bad for Al Roker if he gets the weather forecast wrong with Tiki on The Today Show.

      7) Oklahoma State in 5-5 in Big 12 games this season, but still hasn't covered the spread in league play (0-10).

      6) Speaking of OSU, no one in America looks like they enjoy their job less than Sean Sutton; the guy makes Gary Williams look cheerful. Lighten up people, its a game. Your team will play better if you relax a little.

      5) Oregon State shoots 59% from foul line, as a team. Awful.

      4) USC won in Tucson Thursday for first time since 1-17-85, back when Reagan was President, and I had full head of hair.

      3) How does Mariano Rivera only make $10M a year? Now, I know $10M is huge money, but relative to what some of the other nitwits in baseball make, Rivera is underpaid.

      2) One of my sleeper teams in on ESPNU Friday night, as the Winthrop Eagles visit Missouri State. Winthrop lost by less than 10 points to North Carolina, and lost buzzer beater last year in first round of NCAA's to Tennessee. They're good.

      1) There is no truth to rumor that Barry Bonds has interest in buying Michael Waltrip's NASCAR team.

          Friday, February 16

-- Harvard beat Brown 92-88 Jan 27 (-2) but that was last game its 6-10 center played in; Crimson shot 61.2% from floor, made 7-15 treys in that game. Since then, Harvard lost three of four; for season, they're 0-3 on Ivy road, losing by 80-73ot/74-68/67-53. Brown lost five of its last games.

-- Penn crushed Columbia 69-43 in Bronx Jan 13 (-6.5), holding Lions to 27.3% from floor, while Quakers made 8-18 treys. Lions won three of last four games, are 3-0 vs spread on road in Ivy play. Penn won last three games by 20,14,13 points, allowing an average of 47 ppg in the three wins.

-- Princeton is 1-6 in Ivy, as darkest era in history of the program continues; Tigers lost 55-35 at Cornell Jan 13 (-3), shooting 30% from floor, making 3-23 treys. Cornell won six of last seven, 2-1 on road, losing at Harvard. Tigers are 0-6-1 vs spread in league.

-- Yale won five of last six games, but now trails Penn by game again; they won 71-64 at Dartmouth Jan 27 (-4.5), shooting 49% from floor. Dartmouth lost four of last five games; they're 2-1 as road dog, losing by 6 at Harvard, 20 at Penn, winning 45-44 as a 12-point dog at Princeton in last game.

-- Winthrop has beaten Mississippi State, Old Dominion, lost by seven to North Carolina, 20 to Texas A&M (Jan 2, the last loss). Eagles shooting just 57% from foul line during win streak. This is bigger game for Winthrop than Missouri State, losers in last game to conference rival Southern Illinois.

-- Albany traveled to get to Boise for this ESPNU game; they have to be a little tired, but excited to be in Bracket Buster- they lost 70-67 at VCU last year in the Buster (+7). Great Danes will compete, but they're off bad home loss to conference rival Vermont, face reality of having to win America East finals on road. Boise is 5-1 at home in WAC, losing only to New Mexico State (4-2 as home favorite).

Cornell at Princeton (ESPNU | 7 PM ET)
Cornell is playing its best stretch against Princeton in 20 years with four wins in the last five meetings, including a 55-35 triumph over the Tigers on January 13th in Ithaca. Cornell has won two straight at Jadwin Gymnasium after going the previous 20 years without a win. EDGE: CORNELL
Princeton doesn’t have a double figure scorer on offense (Kyle Koncz leads at 9.0 ppg), but is holding foes to 52.8 points and just 32 percent shooting from 3-point range. EDGE: UNDER
Cornell is currently 4-0 against Columbia, Princeton and Brown. The Big Red swept both games from Columbia and knocked off Princeton and Brown in their first meetings. Cornell has never swept the six games against those three opponents in a single season. SLIGHT EDGE: PRINCETON
The Tigers are 0-7 ATS in their last seven games versus the Ivy League.

Albany at Boise State (ESPNU | 9 PM ET)

                              Cornell at Princeton
Cornell is right in the ***** of things in the Ivy League with a 6-2 mark that trails only Penn (6-1). The only thing that has kept the Big Red from winning seven straight was a one-point loss at Harvard (65-64 on the Feb. 3) on a shot at the buzzer. Playing on the road hasn't been a major problem, either, as Cornell has knocked off Columbia (49-45) and Dartmouth (74-61) away from home. Five of Princeton's six losses have come on the road, but the Tigers also dropped a home game to lower-rated Dartmouth (45-44) last weekend while scoring only 17 points in the second half. The Big Red look like a good underdog pick (+2 1/2) in this one according to Dunkel, which has Cornell favored straight up by 4 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Cornell (+2 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
