    Six-Pack for Tuesday

-- Duke is out of the Top 25 for first time in last 200 polls, second longest streak ever, behind the great UCLA teams.

-- Louisville looked terrific in an easy win at Pitt Monday. Panthers looked like there was somewhere else they would rather have been.

-- Luke Rogers of Northwestern State had a lefty 7-foot tap go in off the glass during Demons' 67-57 win at Stephen F. Austin Monday. Longest tap-in I've seen go in this year.

-- Don't sleep on Georgetown as a Final Foul longshot.

-- Kris Benson is out for the year; bad news for Orioles, bad news for Kris, who is entering final year of his amazing $22 million contract. This is truly a great country.

-- Quote of day is from my fortune cookie last night:
"A different world cannot be built by indifferent people."

Tuesday's List of 13: Marty's firing raises questions.......

      13) Marty Schottenheimer has 200 wins as head coach in the NFL; the man can coach, despite his 5-13 career record in the playoffs. Now he is unemployed, because he didn't co-exist well with Charger GM AJ Smith.

      12) Four Charger assistants had already bolted for other jobs with both coordinators getting head coaching jobs, Cameron in Miami, Phillips in Dallas. Replacing these guys proved to be too much for Smith/Marty to do together, so now they're in need of entirely new coaching staff, while two candidates, who were already right there, have fled the coop.

      11) Maybe this is why Archie Manning didn't want Eli to be the Chargers' franchise QB.

      10) Would San Diego consider Norm Chow, who worked with Philip Rivers at NC State, but has never been a head coach?

      9) Would the Cowboys have considered Schottenheimer for their head coaching job, had he been available?

      8) Hopefully, the new coach will campaign for the Chargers to go with the powder blue jerseys and white helmets full-time.

      7) The NFL wants teams to interview minority candidates, so the process gets stretched out, they can't just go hire who they want. The combine is soon, free agency starts March 2, less than three weeks from now. This is bad timing.

      6) Will minority candidates agree to be interviewed, unless it appears that they're serious candidates? Dennis Green turned down an interview with the Raiders, but San Diego is a much, much, much better job, at this point, than the Oakland job.

      5) I bet you lunch Steve Sarkisian wouldn't turn this job down

      4) Ron Rivera remains a top candidate, off his work with the Bears. Marvin Lewis took a while to get a head coaching job, and he's done well, so Rivera should be patient, and pray like hell he gets this job.

      3) Has anyone ever been fired after going 14-3?

      2) This makes half the 32 NFL teams that have now changed head coaches in last two years. That’s a little weird.

      1) I'm just throwing this out there, but Parcells is unemployed, and the Chargers are a team built to win, right now.

                          Michigan at Michigan State
Just when it looked like Michigan State might turn the corner, the Spartans lost four straight with each loss coming by a greater margin. The culmination of the fall came on Saturday when Tom Izzo's team fell at Purdue by 24 points (62-38). The Spartans committed 21 turnovers in the game and were held to 25 percent shooting and 12 points in the second half, which tied a Boilermaker record for fewest points allowed in a half. As shaky as State's confidence is right now, Michigan's can't be much better. The Wolverines did snap their own four-game losing streak on Saturday, but that came by just two points (82-80) over lower-rated Minnesota at home. Prior to that they had lost to Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio State by an average of 13.66 points with a bad home loss to Iowa (69-62) mixed in. With both teams struggling and needing a win, this should at least be a close game making the Vegas line favoring Michigan State (-7 1/2) look too high according to Dunkel, which has the game even. Dunkel Pick: Michigan (+7 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                            San Antonio at New Jersey
The Spurs come into the contest having dominated the Nets in recent years with seven straight wins. But that dominance may be difficult to maintain given how the Spurs have played recently. San Antonio, which is just 2-4 on a season-high eight-game road trip, has allowed its last two opponents (Miami and Orlando) to top the 100 point mark while shooting better than 52 percent from the field. As bad as San Antonio's defense has been, the Nets have been that good in holding opponents to 80.3 points per game and 37 percent shooting during their current three-game winning streak. The Nets look like a good home underdog pick (+5 1/2) in this one according to Dunkel, which has New Jersey favored straight up by 3 1/2. Dunkel Pick: New Jersey (+5 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                              Los Angeles at Carolina
The Kings have the worst record in the West (19-30-9), but you couldn't tell it by the way they've been playing lately. Los Angeles enters tonight's contest having picked up points in a season-best five straight games. The Kings are coming off their most impressive win of the season in a 4-1 victory at Nashville on Saturday that ended the Predators' franchise-record eight-game home winning streak. Carolina has not been nearly as dominant at RBC Center and is winless in three straight home games for the first time since 2004. The Kings look like a good underdog pick in this one according to Dunkel, which has L.A. favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: Los Angeles (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
