I have taken out multiple loans and still paying them off. In 20 yrs, I have lost enough to put 2.5 kids through college, and not to some state school....

Man:
I have tried to stay away from this post as it brings up bad memories and thoughts. As men, we never want to admit faults and mistakes, but you are right, we all have the horror stories.
Mine is very similiar to gramps. I started out innocent enough out of college in my first real job. Met a guy and jumped on a local's game. Small bit at first, 50 here, 100 there when I felt nutty. Did really well to start, so I was hooked. Got paid the first couple of months. Big money to a kid out of college with tons of school debt, chump change when I look at it now.
After a while of success, the bets started getting bigger and bigger, upwards of 1K a bet. Again, chump change for most, but that was huge for me given my debt structure. Alas, it came crashing and hard it crashed!
Before I knew it, I was in the hole 10K. I pulled funds from my 401k in the form of a loan; my money, right? Why not! In hindsight, that 10k would have been about 40k right now with the funds my company offered.
But oh no, it doesn't stop there. Got back in the game, felt success again. Boom, I am getting paid and thinking the man is a fool for letting me back in. Ramp up the bets again. And then, booya! I have to pull out 20K this time from my 401k. That 20K would have been worth about 60K today. So, I paid the man 30K to get him off my back and that money would have been worth at least 100K in today. Such regret...
Moral of story, I am the degenerate as you and you and you. But I have gotten wiser (or so I think). Today, I play for the thrill of the kill and only with what I can afford. Call it a hobby from a slush fund (am married now and funds are limited). So, no bet over 500 with most around the 100 level. I know my posts have sucked but I actually made some money in CFB and CBB this year. Suck at NBA and NFL (play no NBA, but a sucker for the foots). Still plenty of time in CBB to win more or give back.
Thanks for the post, Chung. Hope this is what you are looking for. In a sick sort of way, kind of therupetic...
LMAO!
Peace,
KJ
