      Washington State at Arizona
The Cougars got a taste of their own medicine on Saturday when upstart Oregon knocked them off in overtime (77-74). But that did little to dampen the enthusiasm in Pullman for a team that looks to be headed to its first NCAA tournament since 1994, when Kelvin Sampson was the coach. First-year coach Tony Bennett has the Cougars ranked No. 1 in the Pac-10 in defense at 58.9 points per game. And the offense behind Derrick Low (15.4 points per game) has played well enough to knock off Gonzaga, USC, Washington and Cal. Tonight Washington State will try to sweep the series with Arizona for the first time since 1982-83. The Cougars beat Lute Olsen's team in overtime (77-73) on Jan. 6. That loss started a major slide for Arizona, which has lost five of its last seven, including an embarrassing 92-64 pounding at home by North Carolina over the weekend. In addition, leading scorer Marcus Williams will be trying to come back from a sprained ankle he suffered in the UNC game. The Cougars look like a good underdog pick (+6 1/2) in this one according to Dunkel, which was Washington State favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: Washington State (+6 1/2). San Antonio at Phoenix
This may very well be a preview of the Western Conference finals, but right now the two teams appear far apart. The Spurs posted a lackluster 9-7 record in January, including a 97-93 loss last night against a Utah team that was playing without Carlos Boozer. Moreover only three of those wins came against teams with winning records and one of them (Denver) was playing without its star player (Camelo Anthony). Phoenix had beaten everybody in its path until the T'wolves snapped their 17-game winning streak on Monday. Overall the Suns have now won 33 of their last 35, including nine straight at home. Phoenix looks like a good pick to cover the Vegas line (-6) according to Dunkel, which has the Suns favored by 12 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Phoenix (-6). Here are all of today's games.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Miami Heat (TNT | 8 PM ET)
The Cleveland Cavaliers might be without injured star Lebron James (toe), but it probably won't matter either way. James has never won in six trips to Miami despite averaging 28.3 points, and Cleveland has lost seven in a row there. The Cavaliers have a 5-23 all-time road record against the Heat. BIG EDGE: HEAT
The Cavaliers have posted an 8-2 record without James this season. EDGE: CAVS

The UNDER is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Miami.
The favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.

San Antonio Spurs at Phoenix Suns (TNT | 10:30 PM ET)
The Spurs have won the last three meetings with the Suns along with five of six, including a 111-106 overtime victory back on November 8th. EDGE: SPURS
Phoenix has won 33 of 36 and is a much improved team since the last meeting with San Antonio. One of the brightest spots for the Suns has been the renaissance of Amare Stoudemire, who is averaging 18.6 points and 8.9 rebounds in just over 30 minutes per game. Stoudemire played just 15 minutes in the first meeting, which was his first start of the year. EDGE: SUNS

San Antonio is 7-1 ATS the last 8 meetings in Phoenix.
UNDER is 14-3 in San Antonio's last 17.

Boston has lost four games in a row, getting outscored 19-3 during the team's longest skid of the season. BIG EDGE: SABRES
                            Boston's 3.68 goals-against-average is the league's worst. EDGE: OVER

Tampa Bay Lightning at Carolina Panthers (7 PM ET)
The Lightning went 9-4 in January, including a 7-2 mark on the road. Four of their road victories during the month - including each of the last three - came in shootouts. EDGE: LIGHTNING
Carolina goaltender Cam Ward has lost four of his last five starts, allowing 20 goals over that span. EDGE: LIGHTNING & OVER

Thursday's List of 13: Random Super Bowl week thoughts

                              13) Kevin Durant had 37 points, 23 rebounds at Texas Tech, as Longhorns stormed past Tech in second half for 76-64 win in Lubbock. At this rate, Durant will surely be #1 pick in NBA Draft; could that keep Greg Oden in school another year?

                              12) Gonzaga, Stanford played terrific game late Wednesday, as Bulldogs went to Maples, won in double OT. Great game.

                              11) UConn's month from hell continued, as Huskies lost for seventh time in last nine games, falling at DePaul. UConn has to string bunch of wins, just to get on the bubble.

                              10) Bracketscience.com is cool website that tracks trends for NCAA tournament. Lot of interesting facts, some relevant, a few that are less relevant, but still interesting.

                              9) Alabama coach Mark Gottfried has been in NCAA tourney in 17 of 21 seasons as college player or coach.

                              8) Am guessing LSU has prioritized recruiting a point guard for next year; this year's Tigers need some leadership.

                              7) Kentucky once won 129 straight home games, from '43-'55.

                              6) If I ran a TV basketball broadcast, I'd always show the two coaches shaking hands after the game.

                              5) Duke has been a #1,2 or 3 seed in 19 of its last 21 tourney appearances; they're 68-18 since field went to 64 teams.

                              Elsewhere.........................
                              4) How weird is the commercial for Chaser Caplets, which is supposed to get rid of hangovers? You're telling me there is a scientist somewhere experimenting on stuff like this?

                              3) Who does a better job than Jim Nantz? (No one.) His three duties are: PGA Tour, NFL, college basketball. He's the best.

                              2) Major League Baseball typically sold out to DirecTV, so if you watched the Extra Innings package on digital cable, you are now out of luck, unless you buy the dish. Penny wise, but pound foolish. Promoting the game should be a priority.

                              1) I was reminded today that the year Steve Young won title with 49ers, I was at house party watching game. 49ers scored on like the third play, and I just got up, took the house key off my keyring, handed the car keys to my future ex-wife, and walked home. Two miles. In January. Didn't watch one more play, thats how much I despised the 49ers. At least this week, someone new is going to win, and it won't be the 49ers.

                              .
