Wednesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but...........
13) Does the agent work for the player, or does player work for his agent? In baseball, its getting hard to tell............
12) Jeff Weaver was cut by the Angels last year, was saved by the Cardinals, won World Series ring, so you figure he is cinch to go back, sign multi-year deal, pitcher in weaker NL, generally be a hero. But if your agent is Scott Boras, there are no romantic notions, just the call of the cash register.
11) Weaver signs a one-year, $8M deal to go to Seattle, be in same division as Angels, in same league he got drummed out of last season. Boras nets $320,000 (4% commission) and at this time next year, we'll see how much Weaver signs for, as he'll be a free agent again. What a country.
10) Colts arrived late in Miami for Super Bowl; wonder whose call that was, Dungy's or GM Polian's? Remember, Polian was GM of the Bills when they lost four Super Bowls, so he might have some ideas on what went wrong back then.
9) At least where I live/work, there is less buzz about Super Bowl this year than any year I can remember. To me, this is a good game, but in northeast, it hasn't caught on yet.
8) Lovie Smith played high school football with the late David Overstreet, who went on to star at Oklahoma and be drafted by the Dolphins, before defecting to the Montreal Alouettes.
7) Rex Grossman is sixth Super Bowl QB to throw 20+ INTs in season he played in a Super Bowl.
6) If you ask me the best NFL team I've seen, for one season only, and I'd tell you the '85 Chicago Bears.
5) Ole Miss PG Todd Abernethy is son of Tom Abernethy, who played on national title team at Indiana.
4) You're Nebraska, excited to be on ESPN Monday night in rare national TV shot, then you fall behind 41-8 to Kansas.
41 to freakin' 8; they showed spunk in losing by only 20, but not sure how many recruits were still watching then.
3) Arkansas/Auburn are tied for SEC West lead. At 3-4.
2) Jamont Gordon of Mississippi State and Jared Jordan of Marist are only D-I players to lead their teams in all three of these categories: scoring, assists, rebounding.
1) A 30-second TV ad on Super Bowl costs $2.6M. Wow.
