Analysis
Home opener for new Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio, who had more than 40 new bodies on an 82-man roster prior to last Saturday’s 16-14 win and cover (+3) at Minnesota. New coaches who have talked as much as Del Rio has normally show up for their first home game with a few tricks up their sleeve. The Dolphins are still searching for some offense but since Jay Fiedler sat against Tampa Bay last week, the QB competition for Miami gets stiffer in this game, as Fiedler (who is probable) will be follwed Griese, and then Wannstedt. The Dolphins' first-team offense was shut out until its fourth and final possession in a loss to Tampa. Last week, Griese moved 57 yards against Tampa Bay's second-team defense for a score. Griese was very good (6-for-8, 45 yards, two dropped passes). Fiedler may play and Griese definitely will, but Miami is banged up with numerous injuries. Coach Dave Wannstedt added, "Our defense was real vanilla tonight. We just wanted to get some work." Jacksonville has a new attitude under coach Jack Del Rio and they are playing hard for the new coach. Mark Brunell, David Garrard, and Quinn Gray will split time at QB and RB Fred Taylor might not play (knee). Del Rio also took some verbal shots at free agent DE Hugh Douglas, who played poorly last week. Look for the Jaguars and Fish to play harder D.
Projected Score: Miami 14, Jacksonville 17

Analysis
The battle of Texas...and likely not many points. The Texans are still a work in progress offensively, trying to build a line and acquire skill position players for QB David Carr. The offense scored just 12 points last week against Denver, though the defense was good last year and looks improved this August. Coach Dom Capers said he was impressed with the performance of his defensive unit: The defense went three plays and out on six of the Broncos' 11 possessions and was not called for a single penalty. "We showed signs of being a physical defense," Capers said. That 'D' should perform well again against a poor Dallas offense that was shut out last week. "I didn't quite expect as poor a performance as that," coach Bill Parcells said. "We didn't really do much of anything." The pre-season trend followers all flocked to Dallas –3 over Arizona last week. They read elsewhere that new Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells was 40-19 ATS in the pre-season with Giants, Pats and Jets. Now, THIS game is a more likely time and place for the ol’ Parcells pre-season point-spread magic to reappear. But you’ve got to be careful. Favorites of more than 4 points are 5-12 ATS in Week 2 of the NFL Pre-Season since 1998...but expect Dallas to do enough here to get a home town win and cover.
Projected Score: Houston 7, Dallas 17

Analysis
The Saints really got fired up in practice last week, with players speaking out about "getting serious" and "playing hard" in preseason. They had the perfect opportunity to take that a step further, playing in front of the hometown fans in the first game....But they laid a giant egg. New Orleans looked completely out of sync in a 27-17 loss to the Eagles, so you have to wonder how well-coached this team is (late-season collapses the past two years makes you wonder, as well). Aaron Brooks, Todd Bouman and Tory Woodbury will see time, while the Jets have Chad Pennington, Vinny Testeverde, rookie Brooks Bollinger and rookie Marquel Blackwell. The Jets were sloppy last week, despite getting an easy 28-13 rout over the Bengals...they will be a little sharper in this affair. But tee minues one week and counting to the Jets’ annual pre-season clash with the New York football Giants, which figures to be the game in which both New York offensive and defensive units are tweaked in this game so they can be at their pre-season bests. New York and New Orleans have a plethoa of offensive weapons and this one has the makings of a high scoring game.
Projected Score: New Orlenes 21, New York Jets 28

Analysis
The Bills are excited about their new-look defense. They got a 20-19 win last week, but that was against the offensively-challenged Ravens, so Bills' fans shouldn't yet think this team has improved a great deal on 'D'just yet. Buffalo's first-team offense was erratic: "I felt like we were sloppy," QB Drew Bledsoe said. "Thankfully, our defense stepped up." They will have a better test here against a tough Tennessee team. You’ve got to like Tennessee’s QB rotation of Neil O’Donnell and Billy Volek behind McNair, because each has seen significant pre-season action in the system over the last four years, and each took snaps with the first-stringers during the regular season a year ago, and last week Tennessee looked sharp: "We had about 200 yards passing, 100 yards rushing and we won at the end," said coach Jeff Fisher. "Classic Titans football." Second straight home game for Tennessee and don't look for a lot of points, as both teams like ball control (yes, the Bills want to do more of that this season).
Projected Score: Buffalo 14, Tennessee 20
