All I know is that just about any deal including this one which would mean Lowell would be traded I am against.
If Lowell stays, other than the cost involved( which is not my problem), then acquiring Helton can't hurt.

I would much rather keep Youk over Lowell if i had to choose. The stats almost mirror each other on offense with Lowell hitting 5 % points more and with 7 more HR'S and 8 more RBI's but Youk has a much higher OB %

Youk is also 5 years younger and makes 1/2 a million compared to Lowell's 9 Million. Simply put, the numbers are not even close when you look at age and salary. You have to get rid of Lowell.

P.S. Please don't bring up defense cuz Youk was lights out last year with the glove and he made some amazing plays. I don't think we lose anything there!

helton doesn't help the pitching, sox should've went after another pitcher especially if yanks get clemens.

You make some valid points, but Lowell adds a lot of intangibles, and simply put, I like the way he plays the game, and think all things considered, he added a lot last year.
I would not be as upset as Lowell leaving as Manny for example, but as stated I personally would like to have him on the team for another season(remember 2/3 of the infield is already gone with Gonzalez and Loretta-too many people gone too quickly is usually not a good thing).

As a Sox fan, I obviously hope all of the moves including this one pay off.
Honestly, I don't feel that at least in the short term(meaning this season), one can realistically think that the Sox are going to run away with the division;I think just making the playoffs will be a tremendous accomplishment with the all of the turnover and new faces.
If I am correct, the majority of Sox fans will be upset if the Sox are not a contender, as they expect Sox will be in the hunt every year;this is not Detroit for example where most fans just accepted the fact that "Rome could not be rebuild overnight."
Anything can happen of course, but at this point I would not give Sox more than a 50% chance of making the playoffs.

I would be surprised if Pedroia is with the team two years from now;he looks like mediocrity(at best)personified.
