New Orleans at Chicago
Everything about the Saints season has been improbable, but none more so than the fact that New Orleans has become the first team in history to make the conference championship after losing 13 or more games the previous season. Coach of the Year Sean Payton continues to get the most out of his roster, which was highlighted by the tough win on Saturday over an Eagles' team that came in with a six-game winning streak. Now the Saints must go on the road, but that shouldn't be intimidating for a team than went 6-2 away from the Dome this season. Especially with a running attack that looks to be in peak form behind Deuce McCallister (143 yards vs. Philly) and Reggie Bush. Chicago fans probably heaved a sigh of relief that the Bears managed to get by Seattle (27-24) on Sunday. But they could hardly feel confident about a defense that allowed Shawn Alexander to have a big day (108 yards) or a quarterback (Rex Grossman) that was sacked three times and coughed up a costly fumble. New Orleans looks like a good underdog pick (+3) in this one according to Dunkel, which has the Saints favored straight up by 4 1/2. Dunkel Pick: New Orleans (+3). Here are all of this week's games.

New Orleans Saints at Chicago Bears NFC Championship (FOX | 3 PM ET)
• New Orleans is a solid team against the run with DT Hollis Thomas back from a four-game suspension, so Chicago QB Rex Grossman will need to take some shots downfield to WR Bernard Berrian like he did against the Seahawks. Saints CB Fred Thomas got burned on Philly WR Donte Stallworth's 75-yard touchdown catch last Saturday, and Grossman connected with Berrian on a 68-yard scoring strike the next day. EDGE: BEARS
• The Saints have numerous offensive weapons, which could pose serious problems for the Chicago defense. While rookie RB Reggie Bush is the least familiar with the cold conditions, he is still the most dangerous player on the field and the one Chicago defensive coordinator Ron Rivera fears the most due to his receiving skills. EDGE: SAINTS
• Chicago's once-dominant defense has surrendered an average of 25.8 points in five games since All-Pro DT Tommie Harris was injured and lost for the season against the Vikings. BIG EDGE: SAINTS
• The betting public is certainly pounding the Saints, something Chicago head coach Lovie Smith may choose to use as motivation for his squad. The Bears will not get any respect until they beat a quality opponent like the Saints, and they will be looking to make Soldier Field an advantage. However, New Orleans head coach Sean Payton played for Chicago during the 1987 strike season and is a native of the area, so he knows all about the team's tradition and the weather there. EDGE: SAINTS
• New Orleans is 7-1 ATS last eight road games.
• New Orleans is 3-0-1 ATS last four regular-season meetings with Chicago and 8-1-1 ATS last 10 overall, including preseason.
• OVER is 9-1 in Chicago's last 10 home games.
New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts AFC Championship (CBS | 6:30 PM ET)
• Former Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri broke the NFL postseason record with five field goals against the Ravens last Saturday, providing all of the team's scoring on a day Indy QB Peyton Manning turned in one of his worst performances. Vinatieri has 34 field goals in 19 playoff games and is much more experienced than his rookie replacement - New England's Stephen Gostkowski - who is a perfect 6-for-6 in this year's postseason, including a 50-yarder. EDGE: COLTS
• The Patriots did not fully take advantage of the NFL's worst rush defense in the regular-season meeting between the teams back on November 6th, letting Manning control the pace of the game. Instead, New England QB Tom Brady was pressed to keep up with Manning and ended up throwing a season-high four interceptions. Indy safety Bob Sanders played in that game, notching one of those picks and also registering a team-high eight tackles. Sanders has been the key for the Colts defensively in the playoffs, helping them hold opponents to just 14 points in two games. EDGE: COLTS
• Brady and head coach Bill Belichick are 12-1 SU together in the playoffs, with the lone loss taking place at Denver in last year's divisional round. BIG EDGE: PATRIOTS
• Indy is 9-0 SU at home, going 6-3 ATS.
• New England is 7-2 ATS last nine playoff games.
• Indy has covered and won the last two meetings after New England went 8-0-1 ATS in the previous nine meetings.
• New England is 5-0 SU & ATS last five games overall.
• OVER is 9-3 in New England's last 12 as a road dog.

Friday's List of 13: Random thoughts on a a frigid Friday
Quick-hitting thoughts for a frozen Friday…….
13) An autographed Peyton Manning mini-helmet costs $350 at the mal l in Albany; a Brett Favre helmet is $250, one of Eli Manning's is $270, and Eli is in Albany every summer for training camp. Go figure.
12) Oh yeah, the reason for Eli's high price is that if you get him to sign Giant helmet at camp, he'll sign with black marker that is hard to read. The $270 helmet is signed with a silver marker that is easy to read. Simple economics.
11) A Charlie Weis signed mini-helmet is $100; I'm guessing he'd be pretty easy to get to sign for free. The prices for these autographed mini-helmets are ridiculous; a blank mini-helmet, by the way, goes for $27.99 at the mal l.
10) If I ran the Falcons, we'd keep Matt Schaub and trade #7. That's just me.
9) I can still see Michael Vick suiting up in silver and black.
8) Clemson's two-game skid is same thing that happened to Texas A&M when they lost to LSU, UCLA in same week; in long run, they'll benefit from it. Players listen to coaching lot better after they've lost couple games.
7) The last eight Final Fours have all had two teams from the same conference.
6) Roy Williams is 8-1 as head coach against Bob Knight, 4-0 vs. Jim Calhoun.
5) So far this winter, they've had more snow in Dallas than here in Albany. That wasn't a complaint.
4) Its still early in season, but if I voted today for the college hoop Coach of Year, I'd have to put Tim Floyd and Tony Bennett right near the top of list, with Oliver Purnell up there, too. Still a long way to go, though.
3) I love the ESPN FullCourt package on the dish, but why not more SEC games?
2) When ESPN first started, the Sun Belt Conference was one of first leagues to let them televise games; now that ESPN is a power in broadcasting, wouldn't it be nice if they agreed to air two of three Sun Belt games nationally, as a token of their appreciation for their early days?
1) My nominee for dumbest college hoop team of year? The Houston Cougars, after watching them blow 24-point second half lead to crosstown rival Rice Wednesday. Coogs led by 17 with under 8:00 left; they looked like an out-of-control AAU team at end of the game. Very ugly loss.
Utah at Toronto
The disparity in season records may keep this line low, but there are few teams hotter right now than Toronto (19-21). The Raptors have won four of their last five, including a pair of lopsided victories over Philadelphia and Sacramento in their last two contests. Sam Mitchell's club has stepped up its defensive intensity and allowed opponents an average of only 86.2 points per game during the stretch. Utah (25-14) is nearing the end of a road trip that did see a bright spot in Detroit (100-99) on Wednesday. But prior to that the Jazz had dropped four straight and five of their last six. This is a tough stop for Utah as the Raptors look like a good pick to cover the Vegas line (-1 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has Toronto favored by 11. Dunkel Pick: Toronto (-1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

Despite a league-leading 3.66 goals per game scoring average, the Sabres have struggled to find the net lately. Buffalo has been held to three or fewer goals in seven of their last nine games, including a recent three-game losing skid that saw the Sabres score only six total. They appeared to snap out of that funk on Wednesday when they beat Boston (6-3), but the lower-rated Bruins are not a stiff test. Buffalo should get that tonight against Vancouver, which has won 10 of its last 11 games. Goalie Roberto Luongo, who will start for the West in the All-Star Game, has won three straight starts while allowing just two goals over that span. The Canucks look like a solid underdog pick in this one according to Dunkel, which has Vancouver favored straight up by 1 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Vancouver (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

Loyola-MD at St. Peter's
After knocking off Marist, Manhattan and Siena in MAAC play, Loyola-Maryland suffered an unexpected out-of-conference setback (70-62) at home against Towson on Monday night. The Greyhounds ran into a hot shooter in Gary Neal, who finished with 33 points, and couldn't overcome an early 30-18 deficit. Now Loyola must go on the road and face the only team that has handed them a conference loss: St. Peter's. But that game on January 8 (66-55) has proved to be St. Peter's high-water mark for the season thus far. Since then the Peacocks have dropped nine straight, including the last four at home by an average margin of 14 points. With Loyola looking to bounce back, the Greyhounds look like a good pick to cover the Vegas line (-4 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has Loyola favored by 7 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Loyola-Maryland (-4 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
