        Six-Pack for Wednesday

Oklahoma St's 105-103 triple OT win over Texas Tuesday was one of the ten best college hoop games I've ever seen. Here are some notes from that game.

Seven kids played 50+ minutes out of 55; four on Texas, three on Oklahoma State.

Mario Boggan of OSU had 37 points, 20 rebounds.

Texas bench played total of only 33 minutes; figure that in a 55-minute game, a total of 275 minutes were played.

OSU coach Sutton appeared to almost pass out during a timeout late in game; his assistants held him up, and he did coach rest of game, but for a second there, he was wobbly.

Texas freshman Kevin Durant is the best freshman in the country; Rick Majerus suggested he might be one of the five best players, in any grade. In this game, he had 37 pts, 12 rebounds, and made several clutch shots.

          Wednesday's List of 13:

Random thoughts on a cold day

          13) The Giants/Coughlin situation, where both coordinators got fired but Coughlin stays, reinforces the notion as a head coach being more administrator than coach. Giant heirarchy likes Coughlin in charge, for whatever reason.

          12) Seattle QB Hasselbeck played last eight games with two broken fingers on his left hand. Ouch.

          11) I heard on TV that Michelle Wie has already earned $19M in endorsements. Imagine what she'll make when she wins.

          10) There is a D-II team in Denver named Metro State that is very good in basketball; their coach quit last year to become an assistant with the Nuggets. Now, Mike Dunlap is one of the frontrunners for the Colorado Buffaloes' hoop job.

          9) In the last five seasons, the last unbeaten team made the Sweet 16 of NCAAs; Clemson is that team, and they'll be an underdog to make the Sweet 16, probably, or at least, not a fashionable choice to do so.

          8) Of course, if their orange uniforms were blue, and had the name Duke instead of Clemson, they'd be picked to win it all.

          7) Wonder how hoop fans of the Cincinnati Bearcats feel; it is likely that UC won't even make Big East tournament, since in the Big East, only twelve of sixteen make the tourney.

          6) The Atlantic 10 has 14 teams in it, and Temple is 14th.

          5) The Princeton-sryle teams ignore offensive rebounding, as they prefer to retreat to prevent easy baskets; Northwestern, for example, has a minus-71 rebounding margin in four games

          4) Handicapping 101: Virginia Tech is an underdog in its next game, Wednesday at Florida State. Hokies are 3-0 in the ACC Seminoles 0-3. Hokies have beaten Duke, Carolina. Go figure.

          3) Three years ago, Texas A&M was 0-16 in the Big 12. Wow.

          2) Tom Brady has a career record of 12-1 in the playoffs, but has never been MVP of the league. How is this possible?

          1) Before you go thinking that the Patriots are geniuses, lets not forget that they passed five times on Brady, too. He was a sixth round pick, so everyone passed at least five times.
