  • LDT's Explanation

    From ESPN:

He left behind some frustrated Chargers, including Tomlinson, who went after an unidentified Patriots player when the game ended. Tomlinson ran for 123 yards and two scores, and caught two passes for 64 yards.

Tomlinson said he was upset that some Patriots were dancing on the Chargers logo at midfield after they had silenced the record crowd of 68,810 at Qualcomm Stadium and wrecked the Chargers' season.

"I would never react in that way. I was very upset," Tomlinson said. "When you go to the middle of our field and start doing the dance Shawne Merriman is known for, that is disrespectful. They showed no class and maybe that comes from the head coach."

Merriman did a spasmodic dance to celebrate each of his NFL-high 17 sacks.

"We lost to a better team today," Tomlinson said.

doesn't every player do a dance.
Giants whole freaken team did a dance.

Head coach might have little personality but he's lost what twice in postseason all time and has 3 rings.
Comparably Marty has never even been to the Super Bowl.

Maybe the Chargers should win the game on their home field and then they wouldn't have to worry about the other team dancing on the logo. Be a man and take it.

exactly. you don't like it, win the game. also, if merriman didn't run his mouth since last sunday, probably wouldn't have happened. when will teams/players learn to talk after you play the patriots, not before.

i hope this doesn't come down too bad on LT though. great player, and I don't mind seeing some emotion after a loss. i'd be pissed if i was him too.

LT is a great player dont get me wrong butwhere in the hell does he have the right to say that New England doing that shit is because of their head coach?? What is his excuse for the not 1 but 2 personal foul flags late in the game over some bullshit that his team mates did? And I agree.. IF the Chargers would take care of business on THIER HOME FIELD they wouldnt have to worry about someone dancing on their field..

Not for nothing... but every NE player except Richard Seymour should have told LDT to enjoy the Pro Bowl, because that's when his next game will be.

If you think that wasn't used as motivation for the Pats than you just ain't paying attention.

sorry kap - that won't fly.....had the chargers won on the pats field you sure as hell wouldn't see LT doing that...maybe merriman, and if so - take your shots there, but not at LT

maybe on another field, and Chargers win, LDT maybe would not have done that stunt, but that is another scenario....It was done on his field, and he reacted poorly....His gripe would have been with the Pats, not the fans, and press who were trying to talk to him....

Simply put, that loss hurt a lot, and he didn't handle it well....nuff said.........that will fly....his actions speak for themselves.....good player, yes, good person, yes, as he apppears to be......right in this situation, no....kapt

I'm tired of players claiming that opponents celebrating on the home teams field/logo is a sign of disrespect.

The Chargers had seven different "logos" painted on their field (On each sidelline, at the 50 yd line, at each 30 yd line and in each endzone).

The Pats would have had to run off the field, out the tunnel and into the parking lot in order to avoid being on or near any of these "treasured" logos.

As far as doing Merriman's nonsense firing a machine gun into the air like someone on electroshock therapy... why shouldn't that be mocked?

Just like the Giants got jump shot mocked after they started losing games, when you bring attention to only yourself by celebrating every simple mundane task, karma jumps up and bites you in the ass.

I can see both sides of this...LT always plays with class, he wins and loses with class...he cant help what his idiot team mates do, dances like merriman, stupid personal fouls like that corner or safety did, or even them not being able to hold on to the ball. I think he would have been pist period for the patriots throwing the win in their face, regardless if they did the merriman dance or some other stupid dance. Patriots u won the game you been there before, shake the hand of your worthy and very tough opponent and move on. U didnt see Brady dancing around, we need more players like Brady and LT, I have no problem with LT calling the players out. Not sure what his deal is with Belichick, from all i hear he is a dick, but the man is a damn good head coach.

i agree...the best thing LT could have done would have been to say he didn't appreciate it, but personally attacking them and their coach made him just as classless as the players who upset him. he would have been better off to show the tape to his teammates next season when the playoffs start and let them know he doesn't want to see it again...maybe then the Chargers can hold serve on their own field.
