I played Hawaii, because of their home record and Fresno hasn't played enough talented teams to prove to me they can win this game on the road. Good luck whatever you do

Their (Fresno) 2 biggest wins were at Oregon St and against Creighton. Hawaii has been solid at home.

Fresno has been there for a few days and declined to do any tourist type thing because they want to win this game. The paper said today that the coach has them focused on winning. Fresno has some very talented young players. They will give Hawaii all they can handle. But, Hawaii is tough on the islands....That's what I got....

I really like Fresno St. in this game, outright of course.

In case you'd like the Fresno reporters take on the game.....

HONOLULU — Coach Steve Cleveland awoke early Wednesday morning, left his hotel room and went for a run on the beach, located one block away.

Outside of tonight's basketball game against Hawaii, his

6 a.m. adventure likely will be the highlight of this three-day trip.

As difficult as it is for fans to understand, Cleveland and the Bulldogs (13-2, 2-0) are here for a Western Athletic Conference game against the Rainbow Warriors (9-6, 0-2), and there's no room on the schedule for much else.

No time for surfing or parasailing. A trip to one of the island's active volcanoes? Not a chance.

"It's not like we're going to be out there bodysurfing and enjoying the water sports," Cleveland said. "That's not going to be happening."

              And forget about the waterfalls.

"You have to keep in mind, this is a business trip," said senior Quinton Hosley, who is making his second trip to Hawaii. "It's just another game, when you look at it. It just happens to be here and there's warm weather, beaches, palm trees."

This game is equally as important to Hawaii guard Matt Lojeski, who is averaging a team-best 17.9 points. Hawaii opened WAC play with road losses to New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech. After hosting Fresno State tonight, the Warriors host first-place Nevada on Saturday.

"We could easily be 0-4 if we don't turn things around," Lojeski said. "We'd like to turn it around and get back on track, and there's nowhere better to be than at home to try and get that turned around."

Wednesday morning, Hosley was waiting to order breakfast at a Denny's around the block from the team hotel. He and teammates wore T-shirts, sweat suits, tennis shoes and flip-flops — typical athletic gear for college basketball players.

No flower prints in the group, except for Don Slade, Fresno State's basketball operations coordinator.

Later in the day, the Bulldogs practiced at Stan Sheriff Center and watched film of their opponent. Cleveland said they would probably go to a movie after dinner — an outing likely near the bottom of most Honolulu priority lists.

That's OK, Hosley said. Most of his teammates aspire to play professional basketball, and this trip is a glimpse into that future. NBA players frequently travel from Los Angeles to Miami and back again within a matter of days, and the successful players learn to curtail the urge to soak in the surroundings.

Hosley wants to do the same.

This is Tyson Parker's second trip to Hawaii, his first with Fresno State.

"It would be nice to be here on vacation, but when you come here to play basketball, you have to stay focused," Parker said. "It would be nice to be here for a week, just relaxing, but that's not why we're here."

Plenty of teams have made the mistake of coming to the islands for sun and surf and departed after being burned by the Warriors. Hawaii is 10-1 this season at the Stan Sheriff Center. The victory lists includes wins against Creighton, San Francisco, Oregon State (Fresno State also has defeated those three teams) as well as Nebraska and Hofstra.

Fresno State leads the all-time series between the schools 15-11.

Since the 2000-01 season, Fresno State is 1-5 at Hawaii, including a 73-65 loss that Hosley attributed to Fresno State taking the wrong approach in paradise.

"Before you know it," he said, "you're playing the game and you may be down 20."

Winning in Hawaii comes with rewards.

"You come here and win, you're going to do something very few teams do," Cleveland said. "Now all of a sudden, you're one up on everybody else [in the WAC]."

For a team that was supposed to be focused, Fresno State is getting pummeled. They can't hit the ocean....They are down 44-24 at the half. I will play the Dog's in the second half....

they are playing well tonight against what I thought was a really talented underrated fresno team....I'm laying the 3.5 and taking the Dogs in the 2nd half. They are not this bad....
