Yankees, Diamondbacks Agree to Trade

There had been rumors for days and many thought the deal was falling through. That was not the case as the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a trade that will send Randy Johnson back to Arizona.

This has not yet been announced, so yes you’ve heard it here first. I am still gathering as many details as I can but I am told this is done.

Apparently the agreement was for two prospects (Nippert & Owings) but there were no further details on the money situation. The two teams have agreed but it is pending a contract extension. The D-Backs will have a 72 hour window to negotiate with Johnson. If that falls through [and I hope it doesn’t] the entire trade will fall through.

There were rumors a few days ago that the two teams had agreed to the trade but they pulled it off the table because contract extension talks weren’t going anywhere.

Update:

Now I am being told the Yankees may get three prospects back in return.

Rumors:

There are a ton of rumors swirling now, none that I have been able to confirm.

1 - Conor Jackson will be coming to New York.

2 - The Yankees will pay $6 million of RJ’s remaining contract.

3 - The Yankees will be sending a second player over to Arizona in this deal.

Again, I have been unable to confirm these rumors. I stand by what I listed above however. This deal is done.

I dont care how much of the contract the yanks have to eat up on the fossil but as myself who knows the minor league system and top prospects...This is a very good trade if it happens for the yanks... I know you never heard of Cojack before but this guy is fucking gooooooooooooooooooooooood. Computer his #'s in a pitchers park like Arizona and bring him over to Yankee Stadium with the short porch...hahahahaha...i'm lovin it

Randy Johnson for all his troubles was still the 3rd best starter on that team and quite honestly wasnt out of gas yet.......sure he wasnt the Randy Johnson we were used to getting but nether is Pedro nor many of the great arms of the late 90s and early this century.

Schmidt is on the decline, Hudson, Mulder, Zito and the list can go on and on.

IMO Yanks are mistaken for letting this guy go for a guy with 15-20 HR pop.........If you are paying 200 million a year WTF is 210?

We shall see how it plays out but I for one will not be shocked one bit if RJ comes back with 15 wins and a sub 4 ERA with around 200Ks......Suppan cant touch numbers like that and that clown just landed 4 years for over MILL........Ted Lilly and Gill Meche just got broken off with huge sums......this IMO just shows the exuberance and stupidity of Yankee fans.....who is gonna replace this guy? Or are you just happy to see him go?

I totally agree, especially for what they are getting in return and still paying on his contract. Yes, Johnson is simply not the Ace he used to be but c'mon ....... He is still better than most in baseball and would be a 2/3 starter on 95% of all rosters ... For Conor Jackson?

Yankees won't get shit for the deal. Any player they get will end up being shit. Maybe they want rid of the $16 million contract so they can sign someone else and much younger. If they had been smart they would have picked up some of the young arms that have recently signed.

That's great and i partially agree but he is still one of the 5 best starters on the Yankees staff and i say 2nd or 3rd best!
