Florida St. is playing a December bowl for first time since 1990; they've had "a miserable year", as coach Bowden called it, not exactly the kind of team you want to back in a bowl, especially when they're visiting west coast for first time in nine years.

The main question for UCLA is this: Have they already played their bowl game, when they knocked crosstown rival USC out of the BCS title game? I mean, a team from LA playing a bowl in the Bay Area isn't exactly an exotic trip, especially since Cal Bears and Stanford, two Bay Area teams, both despise the Bruins.

UCLA is clearly a better team, but Seminoles will play defense; will match the Bruins' speed and has motivation of avoiding the first losing season for Bowden since his first year at Florida St. Bruins are better on special teams, have the better QB and have positive momentum after beating the hated Trojans.

This is most confounding of all 32 bowl games. Take your wife to the movies, watch an NBA game, return stuff to the store, or just sit and enjoy this game, but I really have no idea who the right side to invest in is. Favorites and under rule so far in '06, but I long ago set a rule not to bet against Bowden in a bowl; I intend to respect that until he retires.

Wisconsin-Green Bay comes in as the host of the Oneida Casino Holiday Classic playing solid basketball. The Phoenix took three straight by double digits against Central Michigan (89-71), Chicago State (92-81) and South Dakota State (80-48) before getting a stronger test at Michigan State on Saturday. While Green Bay lost the game (76-64), the Phoenix came within a point of the highest total for a Michigan State opponent this season.
