New Orleans Bowl
Favorite/under combo is 2-0 in bowl season, with two awful tilts to watch; this game provides two excited teams in Rice, playing in first bowl since '61, and Troy, playing in first bowl as member of I-A. Both teams finished season strong, both run the spread offense. Game is in Superdome, so weather is no factor.

Troy is 4-2 vs spread as favorite this year; last four weekends in September, the played road games, losing all four, at Florida St (24-17), Georgia Tech (35-20), Nebraska (56-0) and UAB (21-3). The accountants liked those games better than fans or players.

Rice was 1-5 at one point, then won last six games under 1st yr coach Graham, who came to Rice from Tulsa; he also was once assistant coach at West Virginia under Rodriguez, so he knows winning. Owlslost 55-7 at Nebraska, but beat UAB on last play of game, their common opponents with Trojans.

C-USA teams won, covered last three New Orleans bowls; Troy didn't beat a I-A team outside of Sun Belt, so have to be little bit concerned with class difference, but Rice was 1 and freaking 10 last season, so not like they're dominating anyone. Both sides are happy to be here, which lends itself to a close game.

This is only second time all season Rice is favored. As good as this season has been for the Owls, I look for Troy to keep this close and maybe even give the Sun Belt an upset win.
