            SMU at TCU
The Mustangs come in with an 8-1 record, but have played only two games in the opponent's gym, including their lone loss at Florida State (57-52) back on November 14. TCU has bounced back from back-to-back losses to Texas Tech and Oklahoma with three straight wins over Texas-San Antonio (62-46), Tulane (53-51) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (73-57). The Horned Frogs look to be playing well enough at home to keep this one below the Vegas line (+7 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has SMU favored by 2. Dunkel Pick: TCU (+7 1/2). Minnesota at Green Bay
The Vikings started off the Brad Childress era by winning four of their first six games. But a mid-season slide that included a loss to the Packers (23-17) at home all-but-sealed their fate of missing the playoffs again. The Packers have shown improvement in recent weeks and come in riding a two-game winning streak, although the victories have come against lower-rated San Francisco and Detroit. And Brett Favre & Company still have their inconsistent moments as when they lost home games to New England and the Jets by a combined score of 73-10. The Vikings certainly don't look capable of pulling off that kind of win right now, but neither do the Pack look like a solid pick to cover the Vegas line (-3 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has the game even. Dunkel Pick: Minnesota (+3 1/2). Here are all of this week's games.

                Washington at Sacramento
The Wizards are improving on the road and come into the contest having won three of their last four away from home, including a 147-141 overtime victory against the Lakers on Sunday in which Gilbert Arenas tossed in 60. Sacramento has struggled in the month of December with a 2-8 record and just a 1-4 record in usually-reliable Arco Arena. The high-octane Wizards look like a good underdog pick (+3 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has Washington favored straight up by 1 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Washington (+3 1/2). Thursday's List of 13:

                              Random thoughts with holiday near

                              13) Just watched Knicks, Bobcats slug it out for three hours, kind of like watching two punchdrunk boxers going at it for 15 rounds, flailing away with wild haymakers. Fairly ugly.

                              12) My dad is from Queens, loves watching the Knicks, but is not totally on board with idea that Knicks have to lose a lot so Isiah Thomas gets fired. The Knicks need Thomas gone.

                              11) Anyway, when was last time the top two scorers in NBA were on the same team? Denver has both of them now.

                              10) Allen Iverson was pocketing $156,218 a game, even when he wasn't playing. What a country.

                              9) And then there's the evil Larry Brown, whose name is now popping up in Philly again. This guy just won't go away. No way would I hire the guy, but if I did, he'd be on a month-to-month contract, certainly never a multi-year deal.

                              8) Bronx Bombers spent $46M on this Japanese lefty named Igawa; $9.2M a year, counting that posting fee.

                              7) Hey, here's an idea; how about teams that want to sign a major league free agent pay a posting fee to team that he was with the year before. Say the Mets would have to pay the A's for the right to negotiate with Barry Zito; why is that bad?

                              6) Major league baseball salaries went up 9% last season, up to a ludicrous $2,699,292. Imagine what it'l be next year, with the goofy contracts getting signed this winter.......

                              5) Bronx had an average team salary of $6.95M, down from its average of $7.39M in 2005. At last, some fiscal restraint.

                              4) Toronto was the only team in bottom 12 of payrolls with a winning record.......Giants were only team in top 10 of salaries that had a losing record.

                              3) Redskins are 2-5 on road this season, but both wins came in domes; they play in St Louis this week.

                              2) Bengals are just second team this season to play on road the week after playing a Monday night game on road; Giants had to do it, when they lost at Jacksonville, Tennessee.

                              1) Wouldn't it have been cool had Arthur Blank shown up at the Falcons' game last week with a U of Washington shirt on? It would have diffused the whole Huskiegate situation.
