    Sorry Dimer....

Time to load up on WVU!

ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech quarterback Reggie Ball has been ruled academically ineligible for the Gator Bowl.

Cornerback Kenny Scott also is academically ineligible, the school said Wednesday.

"You're disappointed for the young men and you're disappointed for the team," coach Chan Gailey said. "Although this is a very, very bad ending to the careers of these two young men, we can't forget the contributions they have made to the Georgia Tech program the last four years."

Ball, a senior, passed for 1,820 yards this season while starting every game. He threw for 20 touchdowns and was intercepted 14 times, but was criticized for inconsistency, especially after Tech's offense sputtered in a regular season-ending loss to Georgia and a loss to Wake Forest in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game.

Scott was a three-year starter. This season, he had 50 tackles, two interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

Georgia Tech plays West Virginia in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 1.

Gailey said he learned earlier in the day that Ball and Scott would be ineligible.

He said backup quarterback Taylor Bennett will start in the bowl game. Bennett completed 16 of 29 passes during the season, with two touchdowns and one interception.

Gailey said Bennett has not had much preparation so far and "would be busy."

Jahi World-Daniels will start in place of Scott, Gailey said.

This may be the best thing that could happen to the Jackets.. Ball is a team killer with his dumbass plays that he does sometimes..

I agree in that I don't think Ball is good at all, but that says somethig about the back-up if he couldn't play over Ball. He hasn't gotten much better the last 3 yrs and Johnson makes him look better than he is...

Yes, I live in Atlanta and follow Tech. Ball is a horrible QB, and if anything this helps Tech. There was talk that the backup may plan anyway. Don't get too carried away with this news.

The loss of Kenny Scott is going to be worse for us.As far as Ball goes I see the Yellowjackets rallying around Bennett and trying to make a statement. But dont go putting alot of money on this just because Ball is out he killed us all year anyway.

The line is now 8.5 so it only moved 1 pt.I think maybe line will jump before game time so play the mountaineers now and Georgia Tech right before game time and try and middle.

the one thing going in Tech's favor is that the WVU defense closely resembles paper mache (sp?)....

I agree, i would have laid 14 even if they had all their starters. The ACC blows, i think they get rolled in all their bowl games

Georgia Tech is still going to keep this game close. Bennett isn't much of a drop in class from Ball, and though Kenny Scott is a very good CB, WVU can't throw the ball anyway.

I will be taking Tech. The defense they have is tremendous, and West Virginia is going to be expecting to win easily. If Bennett can throw at all, he can get two or three TDs by just throwing to Calvin. West Virginia has NO pass D (remember UGA lit them up last year in the bowl game...it was UGA's D that was sleeping and unable to stop the WV run game. Ga Tech CAN stop the run and very well!) I wouldn't base too much on the loss to UGA...you are talking about the 2007 SEC East Champions-to-be. And Wake is absolutely peaking but still failed to score a TD on Tech.
