Compared to the rest of the pass-happy Pac-10, the Ducks ranked first in the conference and 11th in the nation in rushing with 189.2 ypg thanks to sophomore running back Jonathan Stewart who was named an All-Pac-10 Second Team member after posting a team-high 960 rushing yards on 176 carries. Stewart also scored 10 touchdowns on the ground, but that was matched by Jeremiah Johnson who carried the ball only 97 times and averaged better than six yards per attempt. While the aforementioned duo was accounting for 20 of the unit's 26 rushing scores this season, quarterback Dennis Dixon was doing his best to take some of the heat off of them by completing 61.9 percent of his passes for 183.7 ypg. Altogether the squad averaged 247.2 ypg passing to rank fourth in the Pac-10 and 21st in the country, but then you had to factor in the 11 touchdowns, against 13 interceptions by Dixon and it looked more promising to run the ball anyway. Perhaps that's why head coach Mike Bellotti opted to go with Brady Leaf to start the last game and could possibly give the nod to the junior in this contest as well even though he is suffering from a sprained ankle. Jaison Williams, who made it onto the list for the Biletnikoff Award, responded with 68 catches for 984 yards and six TDs for the Ducks this season. Another top outlet for the quarterbacks was Kent Jordan, who pulled down 39 balls for 458 yards and four scores for an offense that ranked second in the conference in scoring with 31.3 ppg.
