Questions on a possible Bowl System

I read somewhere that the Bowl team with the better pass defense was something like 39-17 the last 2 years. Does anyone know if this is true? Guess it would be logical because teams seem to open it up in Bowl games, and the team that can stop that woulddo well. On the other hand, teams with poor pass D numbers are often teams that have a lot of big leads. Any thoughts or comments appreciated
