i think i'm in the same boat a lot of others are. after betting sports for 20+ years, i'd say i'm pretty close to breaking even.it seems to take up a lot of your time if you let it, sometimes i wonder if it's worth it....other times i realize how much i would miss it if i could not do it...

This has not been a great year for me, but I have had much worse in my younger days.

I have learned to tread lightly when my confidence is low. It reminds me of my baseball playing days. There were some days I was in the 6 hole saying to myself "God please don't let him hit it to me". Other days, I said come on mo fo, (the batter, not God) bring it my way. This year I have been second guessing alot, meaning low confidence levels.

To me there are 2 keys to wagering:

          1. Keep it a hobby. My wife visits antique stores, I visit Bettors Chat
          2. Wagering always has been, and always will be about knowing when to step out and when to step back.

Both lessons for me were hard learned

I've done well in NFL. I play mostly dogs. It's been a good season for dogs. College slightly profitable.

I'm down over 1,000. Really bad year for me. I did pretty well in college football, crappy in the NFL. I must be -25 turnover margin on games I bet. Lost $500 alone in the IND/NE total, had a major (for me) play on the over 48.5, had a 14-14 game 5 minutes into the second quater but the game landed on 48

The only way to make a living betting sports is to have good money management, full time job handicapping the games, some luck, decent bankroll to start with and several accounts with different books to shop lines. Then after that is said you might fall into the 10% or less category that actually makes it.

i'm down for the year. the problem for me is the bankroll or lack thereof, which makes it much harder to make money and manage it at the same time.

the killer for me is that i've been up quite a bit a few times, but lose it back. i've had some major swings this year, and without the proper bankroll, its hard to take these large swings in stride.

i know the bankroll is a major issue... it's like all other business, it takes money to make money...
