This is also a Fade Play
Out west tonight as Denver invades Laramie to take on the Cowboys.Denver having to play without all world center Nicholson who has graduated with his 20ppg & 11 rpg.the Pioneers at 1-7 have taken their lumps early as the lone win came against Northern Colorado 74-68, 2 weeks ago.this is the first game of a 4 game road trip for the Pioneers & have only 2 players avg double digits in scoring, Walker at 14.5 & Bullock at 11.the Cowboys are off to a 6-1 start & are led by Brandon Ewing at 22.7 ppg & his counterpart guard Brad Jones at 18.3 ppg, the 3rd guard in the mix James spencer is scoring at a 12.6 ppg & the big men under neath, Anderson & Taylor are starting to come around.this is the 140th meeting between the 2 schools & in the last 3 the home team has won by less than 3 points. Wyoming seems to start off slow this year as they avg 35.7 in the first half & turn it up in the second at 44.4. this might be a look ahead to the saturday matchup with Wichita St,

            Wyoming -15

              Latest Line: Denver +15 O/U: 142

              Back to Scores

GAME NOTES: A couple of programs moving in opposite directions clash at Arena Auditorium in Laramie tonight, as the Wyoming Cowboys host the Denver Pioneers in non-conference action. Denver, which lists this relationship with the Cowboys as one of the oldest in school history, fell for the fourth time in as many games on Sunday with a 67-56 setback to South Dakota State at home. The loss was the seventh in eight tries this season for the Pioneers, whose only win was a 74-68 triumph over visiting Northern Colorado a little over two weeks ago. As for the Cowboys, who are a perfect 4-0 at home thus far in 2006-07, they posted their third straight win on Saturday with a 73-62 triumph over Montana State. At this point the lone loss on the season for Wyoming was to UAB on the road by 21 points. With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Cowboys maintain a 96-43 advantage over Denver heading into this meeting. Last year, the schools played in the Mile High City, recording the first basketball sellout in Magness Arena history as the Pioneers pulled out the 69-64 win.

Denver made just nine field goals in each half on Sunday as it bowed to South Dakota State at home. Even worse than 31 percent from the floor on the afternoon was a mere 21.1 percent behind the three-point line for the Pioneers.

Antonio Porch made 4-of-12 attempts from the field to finish with a team-high 13 points, followed by Tyler Bullock with 11 points and four assists as he missed all four of his three-point tries. At this point the Pioneers have had a different top scorer in each of the last five games, but while that may signify team play to a degree, it has resulted in just one victory. DaShawn Walker, who posted a season-high 30 points in the loss to Colorado State two games ago, leads the team with his 14.5 ppg even though he is shooting just 38.3 percent from the field. Bullock contributes 11.0 ppg, but with those two being the only double-digit scorers, it is easy to see why Denver is producing only 61.2 ppg.

A major part of the problem is a lack of rebounding as well, with the Pioneers getting beaten on the glass by almost eight per game.

The Cowboys went from shooting 56.5 percent from the field in the first half up to 57.9 percent following the break, more than enough to lift the squad to the double-digit win. Except for Brad Jones who finished with only two points, every starter scored in double figures beginning with Brandon Ewing who rolled up 23 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists. Joseph Taylor tallied 16 points, James Spencer 12 and Chris Anderson 10 points, with the last two leading the way on the glass with six rebounds per game. Ewing, the leading scorer in each of the last three games for the Ponies, is putting up 22.7 ppg thanks to his 42.9 percent accuracy from three-point range. Jones contributes 18.3 ppg and is also the team leader with 35 assists and 17 steals, while also placing among the leaders with almost five rebounds per game as well. With the team shooting an impressive 44.2 percent from three-point range, it's not hard to see how the program has come up with 80.1 ppg so far this season.

With one of the top scoring tandems in the nation, the Cowboys have the horses to get past Denver without much effort, especially at home.

Predicted Outcome: Wyoming 83, Denver 64
