Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but...................
13) From my quick count, six of the coaches who voted in the USA Today college football poll have already been fired.
12) Steve Spurrier voted Notre Dame 16th; most everyone else had them anywhere from 10th to 13th. Oddly, Phil Fulmer of Tennessee had Irish 7th, their highest ranking.
11) Dennis Franchione voted Texas 22nd, a spot lower than his own Aggies.
10) Think Miami, Alabama are happy to be bowling? Both 6-6 clubs already fired their coach, and Hurricanes get to go up to Idaho, to play an excited Nevada team. At least Alabama is going to Shreveport, a warm-weather place.
9) Sad to see that Stanford, a "reading, writing school" as the former Giant GM George Young used to say, fired Walt Harris after only two years as head coach. Cardinal was 1-11 in '06, their worst record in over forty years, but still..........
8) If you remember, Bill Walsh was 8-24 in his first two years as 49ers' head coach; in today's world, he wouldn't have been around for his third season (49ers won Super Bowl in Walsh's third season).
7) People are saying Rutgers coach Schiano has character, as he turned down Miami to stay in New Jersey; fact is, Rutgers is now a better job than Miami. Keep in mind, Larry Coker got fired with a 59-15 career record. Schiano is a god at Rutgers; plus, word has it his wife didn't want to move to Florida.
6) Rutgers' bowl game will be shown on NFL Network, not a widely-seen network, at this point. But, with Schiano staying in Jersey, its all good for the Scarlet Knights.
5) Notre Dame is 8.5-pt underdog vs LSU; last time Irish won a bowl game was after '93 season-- they beat Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl.
4) Boston College coach O'Brien is a Navy graduate; now he gets to coach against his alma mater. BC is only team in USA to win bowl game in each of last six seasons.
3) Former Florida coach Ron Zook was only one of five Big 11 coaches who voted in USA Today poll that put Florida ahead of Michigan.
2) All seven SEC coaches who voted placed the Gators 2nd.
1) As if the Chicago Bears didn't already have a brewing QB controversy, Rex Grossman went to Florida, Brian Griese is a Michigan man.
