Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a wild day................

            13) Come Selection Sunday, Jim Boeheim better not bitch to the ESPN guys about how the Big East got hosed out of bids to the NCAA Tournament. Syrcause got beat at home by the Wichita State Shockers Saturday, a Missouri Valley team.

            12) Not only did Syracuse get beat, they were down 32-12 at one point. Once they starting pressing, they got back into it, and wound up missing wide open layup to take lead with :20 left to play. But, they lost at home to a Missouri Valley club.

            11) Next Saturday, the Shockers go to Wyoming, after having won at George Mason, LSU and Syracuse the previous three Saturdays. You can pencil the Shockers in for an NCAA bid.

            10) A Division III hoop team scored 201 points Saturday; the other coach should be fired immediately, for participating in a farce that embarasses his school, not to mention losing game by over 120 points.

            11) Some things are constant: Georgetown led by 7 at half at Duke, but lost 61-52; Hoyas shot 8-12 from line, Duke 21-25.

            10) Big hoop week for Texas A&M next week, with a revenge game vs LSU, then national TV game with UCLA. Could be the biggest week in history of Aggie basketball.

            9) Kevin Pittsnogle, star of last year's West Virginia Sweet 16 team, played a CBA game in Albany Friday night. How fast kids fall out of the limelight after college.

            8) Middle Tennessee State will play Central Michigan in bowl game; it should be sponsored by Rand McNally, or company that makes compasses.

            7) Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl? This guy Jim Grobe won at Ohio U and he is winning at a small private school with no natural recruiting area. His job at Wake is a lot harder than ones at Rutgers or San Jose State; it has to be harder to win in football at a small school like Wake Forest.

            6) I'll say it one more time, in case the Alabama people are out of denial about Nick Saban; Grobe can win big for you, better yet, he can beat Auburn. If he can shut the Seminoles out in Tallahassee with Wake Forest, he can beat Auburn.

            5) Troy State-Rice will be a cool bowl game; first I-A bowl for the Trojans, first bowl since early 60's for the Owls, who were 1-10 last season while running the antiquated option.

            4) If I ran ESPN, every Hawai'i home game would be on at 12 midnight Saturday nights. They are a very entertaining team.

            3) Rutgers-West Virginia was quite a show Saturday night; Big East football might be the biggest winner of entire 2006 season. With only eight teams, teams play each other every season, and thats better than the mega-leagues.

            2) USC's last four regular season games were Oregon-Cal-Notre Dame-UCLA, a very difficult gauntlet to run, especially for team that maximized its talent this season. I think Florida will give Ohio State a better game than Trojans would have.

            1) Steve Spurrier got half-million raise Saturday, one he would not have gotten unless Alabama fired its football coach, then made noise about going after Spurrier to be its coach. Must be nice to make a few million off another's misfortune, without actually doing anything

Saturday's List of 13: Random weekend thoughts........

            13) The best golf tournament of the year is this week, the final stage of Q School, where guys are playing for their careers, or at least, their 2007 Tour cards. It is six days of grinding in front of small crowds, with top 35 finishers getting '07 Tour cards; thru two rounds,

            12) After reading a few articles about the Cowboys the last month, I may have to cut my Florida vacation short next summer, so I can go to Canton and see Tony Romo get inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Seriously, can we let the guy play at least a half season before he gets in the Pro Bowl?

            11) In last three weeks, Cowboy defense has picked off a pass on first drive of third quarter in all three games.

            10) 32 bowl games this season means more than half the I-A teams are bowling; it also means if you're not bowling, your employment status is probably shaky.

            9) There is no truth to rumor that Cleveland Brown fans want this Browns team to move to Baltimore, too, but they are an awful offensive football team. How do you go into a season with a QB tandem of Charlie Frye/Ken Dorsey?

            8) Charlotte Bobcats are $1.7M under the NBA's salary floor; if they don't spend the money on a new player, the money gets split up amongst the current ones.

            7) ESPN.com columnist Pat Forde, whose college columns are must-read, played high school football for former Colorado coach Gary Barnett.

            6) Rookie QBs lost their last 11 starting debuts. Drew Henson was last to win one, two years ago. 5) Cardinals are only NFL team that hasn't had a 100-yard rusher in any game this season.

            4) Colts' new stadium in downtown Indianapolis will have a retractable roof.

            3) According to Elias Sports Bureau, since the start of the 2002-03 season, NHL teams playing for new coach following an in-season change have a record of 20-3-5. That's a remarkable record, especially since most of those clubs were losing teams.

            2) Why would Pete Carroll even consider going back to NFL, unless he thought the monster he was building at USC was getting too big to keep feeding?

            1) What exactly are powers-that-be at Alabama going to do if/when Nick Saban turns them down? This isn't a good job anymore, because expectations are stupid-high. If they had an ounce of sense, they'd had go hard after Wake's Jim Grobe

Philadelphia: 14-5 ATS off a loss by 21+ points

              Monday Write-up

Panthers (6-5) @ Eagles (5-6)-Philly lost five of last six games, have Garcia at QB, but with win here, they still tie for last playoff spot. Carolina scored 15 or less pts in four of last five games; they're 2-3 on road, with all five games decided by four or less points. Philly defense sagged last two weeks, allowing 446 rushing yards, 76 pts; they've given up 21+ pts in each of last three halves. In last seven games, Panther offense started 30 drives 80+ yards from end zone; they scored three FGs, no TDs and went 3/out 12 times, so offense not carrying own weight. Philly is just 3-3 at home.
