  • Cubs back at it again--offer huge deal for Schmidt

3 yrs 40 million!!! Kinda scary to throw that kinda money on an injured pitcher, but its great to see the trib finally open the wallets this year

Love the manager there... He'll get it done with them at some point. Was hoping the yanks canned torre and signed lou, but no luck.

They sold me with Soriano on re-upping my season tickets!

I think that's a good deal. Schmidt is only 33. The Yankees just paid 25 million for the rights to Igawa, for 15 million more they could've had an ace. Doesn't make any sense to me.

That's awesome...although I would have been fine with Zito too....I'd love to get another lefty in there with Hill.

They are so ripe to sell right now it's not even funny.

              God I hope they do.

i like this deal better than soriano. 3yrs isnt that long and if healthy schmidt with Zambrano would be a steller 1-2 punch.

I say lets go after Many Ramirez now. The red sox want a shortstop, give them both Itzuris and Cedeno, along with either Murton or Jacque Jones and a couple of pitching prospect and maybe Dempster since Wood will be the closer (barring injury) and the red sox need one with Pabblebom (sp?) moving to the starting rotation
Think of the middle of that line up : soriano, manny, lee, ramirez---wow--well a man can dream
