Six-Pack for Monday
-- Why do the Chicago Bulls have a rule against wearing headbands? Excess rules only cause problems.
-- Torry Holt has more receving yards in his first eight years than any other receiver ever.
-- Cardinals ran ball six times for 17 yards Sunday; why did they sign Edgerrin James?
-- Chuck Amato got canned by NC State, but he did a lot to improve facilities there, making it a better job for next guy.
-- Sinking ships in NFL: Giants-Falcons-Browns.
-- Jerry Sloan is the most underrated coach in any sport.
Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up an NFL Sunday..............
13) AFC is now 25-6 against the NFC the last six weeks.
12) Saints hit a Hail Mary on last play of half to extend lead to 21-6 at half in Atlanta. Falcons had great chance to tie game, but Roddy White dropped easiest pass ever on 10-yard line, on third down play. Falcons just break down at critical times.
11) I mean, Atlanta ran ball for 281 yards, but passed for only 52; Vick ran for 166, but completed 9-24 passes. Granted, his WRs are horrible, but I wouldn't be shocked if they traded Vick in the off-season.
10) Browns wore uniform numbers on their helmets this week. It didn't help; in last two weeks, playing their biggest rivals at home, Cleveland scored zero offensive TDs on 20 drives.
9) Buffalo's Roscoe Parrish not only had tremendous 82-yard punt return for TD, he caught the pass to sideline that set up Buffalo's winning FG against the Jaguars. tough spot for Jax, playing opposite turf road game in cold weather on short work week after home Monday night win.
8) Jags' David Garrard had great 4th-down scramble with 0:40 left to set up tying score; he is a darned good QB.
7) Cardinals ran opening kick 99 yards for TD, then in fourth quarter down 31-13, ran a fumble back 99 yards, setting up a backdoor cover. Arizona then recovered onside kick and had three passes into end zone to win game, but didn't hit any.
6) Ravens are on serious roll, and with Colts, Chargers taking most of limelight, they're flying under radar; their game with Bengals this Thursday will be very interesting.
5) Vince Young is now 4-4 as a starter. Texans fans have got to be sick about missing out on their native son.
4) Then there are the Giants, who led 21-0 in fourth quarter, and couldn't even get game into OT. With Dallas coming to town next week, this was a catastrophic defeat. Giants' own website called the loss "unfathomable."
3) It was first time in Giants' history they led by 20+ points in fourth quarter and lost the game. First time ever. Not good.
2) The 21-point fourth quarter comeback was best in history of NFL by a rookie QB.
1) Too bad Titan owner Adams doesn't want to give Fisher a raise in his next contract. If Parcells bolts Dallas, rumors say Fisher will be Jerry Jones' first choice as a replacement. Titans need continuity to continue their improvement.
Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up tremendous day of games
13) Given how USC puts 40+ points up on Notre Dame every year, do Trojans have to give that white horse extra oats and water the week before they play the Irish, to make sure horse doesn't suffer from over-exertion?
12) I beg somebody to explain to me how Charlie Weis gets a 10-year contract for doing same things that got Willingham fired and exiled to Seattle? How is he any better?
11) Irish lose their QB, best WR and nine starters off defense to graduation. Now Weis' recruiting comes into play; he was working with Willingham's recruits the last two seasons.
10) There is a video board at the Tokyo Race Course in Japan that cost $35M to install. Seriously. They are avid racing fans over there in Tokyo. Horses, not cars.
9) Astros paid Carlos Lee $16M a year for six years. Wow.
8) Illinois State 78, St John's 65;Wichita 57, LSU 53. Don't be calling the Missouri Valley a mid-major conference.
7) Shockers only scored 57 points, but all five starters were in double figures, which isn't that easy to do, when you sit and think about it.
6) Five of the top eight college hoop teams lost this week.
5) Larry Coker gets $3M to go away, which explains why he was so pleasant at news conference announcing his ouster.
4) Ben Wallace played 20 minutes for Bulls Friday, had zero points, zero rebounds. If 46-year old me played 20 minutes in an NBA game, I'd get either a point or rebound, guaranteed.
3) Georgia Tech has NFL-type coach, a great WR, but the QB couldn't hit the side of a barn with a thrown football; there are lot of frustrated Yellow Jackets down in Atlanta.
2) Texas Longhorns lost consecutive football games for first time since 1999.
1) Kansas-Florida lived up to expectations, with Jayhawks an overtime winner. Tremendous game by both sides.
Packers (4-6) @ Seahawks (6-4)-Favre is banged up, backup Rodgers is out, which leaves them Furman rookie Martin and recently-signed Bouman as backups, should #4 not being able to play whole game.
