Texans (3-7) @ Jets (5-5) -Houston on road for fourth time in five weeks; they're 1-4 on road, losing by 19,28,6,4 points; their last four games overall were all decided by six or less points. Texans covered three of last four as a dog. Jets struggling on offense, scoring 10 pg last three weeks; they've allowed 125+ rushing yds in every game other than Week 1, and allowed 154 yds/game on ground last three weeks. Jets are 2-3 at home, winning by 3,7 pts; they're 2-0 vs. spread as favorite this year. Houston is 2-3 as a road dog. AFC South road dogs are 7-2 vs. spread in non-divisional games.
Jaguars (6-4) @ Bills (4-6) -Trap game for Jags, traveling into cold weather on short work week after Monday night home win; they're 4-1 when they score more than 14 points- five of last six Buffalo foes scored 17+. Bills are 2-1 since bye, beating Packers, Texans, and losing at Colts by a point, so they're getting better. Buffalo passed for 333 yards last week, after averaging 108 yds/game thru air in previous five contests. Second of only two games on carpet this year for Jags, who are 1-3 on road, beating Eagles, but giving up 28 peg in losses at Indy, Washington, Houston.
Steelers (4-6) @ Ravens (8-2) - Pittsburgh allowed 16.8 pg in first five games, 30.4 in last five, but neither Cleveland TD last week was scored by offense. Steeler offense has scored 45 pts in second half of last two games- they're 3-1 when they allow less than 23 pts, 1-5 when they don't. Ravens are 4-0 since bye, scoring 28 pg; they're 4-1 at home, losing to Carolina, winning other four by 22,3,6,14 pts. In last three games, Baltimore started nine of 33 drives in enemy territory. Five of last six Steeler games, four of last five Raven games went over the total.
Bengals (5-5) @ Browns (3-7) - Cleveland scored TDs on defense and special teams last week at home, and still lost, allowing Steelers to score 24 second half points; they've been outscored 56-26 in second half of last three games. Browns lost first meeting vs Bengals, with Cincy outrushing them 160-57, winning 64% of third down plays and scoring on two TD drives of 80+ yards. Browns are 1-4 at home; they are 1-7 when allowing more than 13 pts. Bengals scored 29.8 pg in last four games, but lost three of last four and covered just one of last seven.
Cardinals (2-8) @ Vikings (4-6) - Both sides struggling here, as Dennis Green returns to scene of happier days (he used to coach Vikings). His Cards ended 8-game skid last week but are 0-4 on road, losing by 11,22,13,17 points (0-3 as road dog). NFC West road dogs are 1-8 vs. spread in non-divisional games. Minnesota lost last four games, scoring 11.8 pg (four TDs on last 46 drives); they led at Miami last week, but gave up two defensive TDs in fourth quarter of 24-20 loss. Since blowing Week 6 Monday nighter vs. Bears, Arizona has scored only 12.5 peg. Last week was Leinart's first NFL win.
49ers (5-5) @ Rams (4-6) - Why are Rams 6-point favorites? Niners won last three games, allowing three TDs on last 33 drives; they've run ball for 460 yds in last two games, and beat Rams 20-13 at home in Week 2, gaining 10.6 yds/pass attempt (they've been under six yds/att in last five games), outscoring Rams 17-3 n second half. Rams' last win was Oct 8 in Green Bay; they've lost five games in row and their best OL Pace. Ram foes started 11 of last 52 drives in Rams' territory, making job harder for already suspect defense that allowed average of 201 rushing yds/game over last four weeks.
Saints (6-4) @ Falcons (5-5) - Atlanta lost their last three games, scoring four TDs on 35 drives; they're 4-0 if they score 20+ points, 1-5 if they don't. Saints are 1-3 since their bye, with 13 TDs, four FG tries and 12 turnovers (-9) on 47 drives. Potent NO offense has put up 1,112 yards in last two games and converted 25 of last 45 on third down- they beat Atlanta 23-3 in first meeting, blocking punt for TD and winning 61% of third down plays. NO is 6-1 when they allow less than 31 points, 4-1 vs. spread as underdog. Five of seven NFC South games stayed under the total.
Panthers (6-4) @ Redskins (3-7) -Washington lost five of last six games, winning just 41.5% of third down plays in last four; they've split four home games, with three decided by FG, other by TD in OT. Campbell made first NFL start last week; he was 19-34/188, as Bucs stacked run and outrushed Skins 181-64 in 20-17 win. Panthers allowed one TD on 25 drives in winning both games since their bye; they split their four road games, with all four decided by 2 or 3 pts. In their last four games, Carolina foes started 23 of 48 drives 80+ yards from end zone, so except for Dallas game (four TD drives started in Carolina territory) any points they give up have been earned.
Giants (6-4) @ Titans (3-7) - Tough week for slumping Giants, traveling on short work week after pair of dismal primetime efforts, facing spunky Tennessee club that is 3-2 since 0-5 start, with three of their last five losses by three or less points- Titans covered four of last five as an underdog. Titans averaged 166.3 rushing yds/game over last six games. Since beating Dallas in Week 7 (rematch is next week) Giants have converted only 15 of 50 (30%) on third down, and in last two games, completed just 33 of 73 passes (45.2%). All four Tennessee home games went over total. New FieldTurf playing surface for this next game, as quagmire of field in Foxboro was finally replaced in last week; footing could be slick, like it was for Saints' opener in Superdome.
Bears (9-1) @ Patriots (7-3) - Patriots are 2-0 vs. NFC this season, winning 31-7/35-0 but both those games were on road. New England is 2-3 at home, Bears 5-0 on road; Patriots are 1-3-1 vs. spread at home, with only cover by point over Jets. Chicago is on road and in eastern time zone for third week in row. So far, only game Bears lost was when they were -4 in turnovers vs. Miami-they even won in Arizona with -4 TO ratio. NFC North road dogs are 4-7 against the spread, in non-division games. Bears are dog for second time this season (38-20 @ Giants, +2.5).
Raiders (2-8) @ Chargers (8-2) - Oakland defense much-improved since Week 1 debacle in Coliseum (27-0 SD, TY 302-129); in last five games, Raiders allowing only 14.4 pg, giving up six TDs on 57 drives, but Chargers are on fire, scoring average of 36.5 pg over last six games. In fact, San Diego has scored more second half pts than 18 NFL teams have scored all season. Bolts are 3-1 as home favorites this season, winning by 33,10,14,7 pts. After winning only 42.6% of third down plays in first five games, Raiders have won 55.1% on 3rd down in last five, so they're making more plays. Too bad Randy Moss doesn't try all the time; he had zero catches in tough loss last week.
Eagles (5-5) @ Colts (9-1) - Philly not only lost four of last five games, they're now without McNabb for duration, as they start stretch of four road games in five weeks. Indy off first loss of season, but even before they lost, their previous three wins had all been by seven or less points, as lack of run defense (allowing 155.1 ypg/season) takes its toll. Eagle defense forced 13 turnovers in first six games, but only two in last four; are they going to blitz Manning? Philly has only one TD in last six red zone trips; they need to run ball better close to goal line. Colt home wins are by 19,7,1,1,14 points.
Packers (4-6) @ Seahawks (6-4) -Favre is banged up, backup Rodgers is out, which leaves them Furman rookie Martin and recently-signed Bouman as backups, should #4 not being able to play whole game. Hasselbeck expected back under center for Seattle club now only game ahead in NFC West; they're 4-1 at home (3-2 as HFs) winning by 11,12,16,2 points. Seattle is 9-35 on 3rd down last three weeks. Pack is 3-2 on road this season, 3-5-1 vs. spread as dogs. NFC North squads are 4-7 as road dogs in non-divisional games. NFC West home favorites are 5-2 vs. spread, out of their division.
