Thursday's List of 13:
Random Thanksgiving thoughts
13) Part of drama of the Matsuzaka signing is fact that Mrs Matsuzaka was model/broadcaster in Japan, and wants to do more of that here. Hopefully for the Red Sox, she's not the Japanese Anna Benson.
12) NBA, NHL and AL all have Canadians as their reigning MVP's. Go figure.
11) Media people: Stop calling Madison Square Garden the mecca of college hoops; it isn't. Dayton puts 8,000 people in the seats for the play-in game in March every year, while the Garden can't sell out a twinbill with North Carolina playing.
10) Got new glasses last week, so I know I read it right: $10M a year for Garry Matthews and $9M for Juan Pierre? What a country!!!!
9) Jose Reyes should fire his agent; the kid got hosed on his contract, compared to what these guys are getting.
8) Rumor has the Angels going hard after Manny Ramirez this winter. Not sure why they gave Matthews $50M, though.
7) There is restaurant near my house that specializes in pies; they do such a bustling business around Thanksgiving that there will be a policeman directing traffic outside the store Thursday. Happens every year.
6) Memphis led Georgia Tech by 16 at the half Tuesday, but Tech caught up 8:55 left, pulled away to win by 7. Don't often see game with two strong teams with such wild swings.
5) Michael Vick had 23-12-1 record in his first 36 NFL starts; he is 13-12 in his last 25.
4) Since 1980, only 11 of 26 Super Bowl champs had the best record after ten weeks. Teams that get hot in December win the Super Bowl tournament.
3) MASN, the Orioles/Nationals' cable channel, televises late night baseball live from Hawai'i, the HWB. No idea what this league is, but its fun to watch.
2) Latest rumor has Dennis Green being replaced in Arizona by Steve Mariucci. You get the idea that if Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry came back from the grave to coach Arizona, they'd still finish under .500. At least their stadium is nice.
1) Dallas News reports that over the last 29 years, with Lions and Dallas both playing at home on Thanksgiving Day, in 16 of those 29 years, Cowboys also played at home week before Turkey Day, giving them better time to recover and prepare.
Detroit, on other hand, was on road before Thanksgiving in 28 of those 29 years. Unless they asked to be on road then, that doesn't seem overly fair.
