-- Indiana State beat Hoosiers LY 72-67 (+6.5) in Terre Haute; IU in bad mood after losing to Butler, costing them trip to NY for NIT semis. Sycamores beat W Michigan by hoop in its opener.

-- UNLV, Santa Barbara both won first two games. Rebels by 14 and 3, Gauchos by 8,32. Big West teams off to surprisingly nice 12-3 start vs spread this year. Mountain West home favorites are 4-2 vs spread.

-- Saint Louis is darkhorse in A-14, with four starters back from 17-11 team. Louisiana Tech lost lot from LY, now young guys they've recruited get chance. WAC underdogs are 0-4 vs spread

-- Lamar lost its coach, as well as 76% of scoring, 87% of boards so they're up against it facing Texas Aggie squad that has four starters back from LY's 22-9 club. Big 12 teams 9-7 vs spread.

-- Maryland beat Hampton (102-75), Vermont (81-63) last week at home, more impressive after Vermont beat BC, then they waxed St John's last night, 92-60.. -- South Alabama won two of three in Fresno last week, but hard to lay double digits this early in season, even though Morehead was 4-23 LY, and lost by 17 at Penn State in their opener TY.

-- DePaul already 0-2, scoring just 48.5 ppg, but this is opener at home, vs E. Illinois club that was 6-21 LY, and lost by 10 this yr to UL-Monroe, by nine to Riverside. Big East home faves: 8-4.

-- Western Carolina is well-coached team with lot of new guys learning Princeton-style attack. Purdue is headed to Maui after this; they won opener 67-55 vs Northern Colorado. Next year is Boilers' year, when killer recruiting class arrives.

-- Denver lost at home to Southern Utah, after losing 78-64 in its opener at graduation-riddled Colorado. Sacramento was up 7 at half in last game, lost by 25, at home, so that isn't very good.

The Pacers come into tonight's game having lost two straight, including a 114-88 pounding on Wednesday against a lower-rated Boston team that is off to its worst start since the pre-Larry Bird era. The Nets showed no ill-effects from the absence of Richard Jefferson (ankle injury) in a 100-87 win over Milwaukee. The Pacers could have a tough time protecting the home court in this one according to Dunkel, which has New Jersey favored straight up by 2 1/2. Dunkel Pick: New Jersey (+4 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
