I hit with my first hoops play of the year Saturday as Washington State covered the spread by 18 1/2 points. 95 percent of my basketball plays are in the NBA but I'm already posting my second college play of the year as I find a game as irresistible as the one I posted Saturday.
College:
1* Detroit (University) +11 1/2
Detroit may win the Horizon League this year and has the league's best player in James Cotton. But this is really just a play against Marquette. While Marquette is ranked in the top 20 and has the best point guard in the nation, they've been very dull against soft competition so far. They had to go to OT last night to beat Idaho State (who?) and only beat Hillsdale (Hillsdale??!!) by ten on Friday. Detroit is 20 points better than either of those teams and could win straight up if Marquette doesn't wake up.
NBA:
1* Rockets -1
Houston is my longshot pick to win the NBA title this year. The team is finally healthy and is very deep. They are 5-2 even though five of their first seven games have been on the road and are coming off an annihilation of the Heat in Miami Sunday. Nothing against the Spurs but the Rockets are playing very well right now.
Opinion only: Bulls
