        TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14

        Ball State at Toledo
Toledo looks like it has righted the ship somewhat after following up a win over Akron (35-20) with a nice upset at Northern Illinois (17-13) that was salvaged with a defensive stop on the last play of the game. Toledo has gone from an also-ran to a Vegas favorite (-5) in tonight's game against Ball State. But while the Cardinals' overall record is poor (3-7), they have proven a difficult draw on the road. Ball State won at Miami of Ohio (20-17) two weeks ago and then followed that up by giving mighty Michigan a real scare in the Big House before losing 34-26. The Cardinals certainly look capable of pulling the upset here and should take advantage of the Vegas line according to Dunkel, which has Ball State favored straight up by 2 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Ball State (+5).

Game 101-102: Ball State at Toledo
Dunkel Ratings: Ball State 78.799; Toledo 76.273
        Dunkel Line: Ball State by 2 1/2; 55 1/2
        Vegas Line: Toledo by 5; 53 1/2
Dunkel Pick: Ball State (+5); Over

          TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14

          Sacred Heart vs. North Carolina
Last year North Carolina exceeded expectations when Roy Williams took a young team led by freshman Tyler HanXXXough to the NCAAs before losing to Cinderella George Mason. HanXXXough returns after becoming the first freshman to lead the Tar Heels in scoring (18.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg). In addition, he'll be joined by an array of players who logged significant minutes last year, including Reyshawn Terry (14.3 ppg) and Wes Miller (44 percent from three-point line). Not surprisingly UNC is picked by many to win it all. Tonight the Tar Heels open up against Sacred Heart. No doubt the Pioneers are looked upon more as a sacrificial lamb here, but the Vegas line of 36 may be a bit too high against a team that did play Fordham down to the wire (70-68) in its opener. New Jersey at NY Rangers

Tonight New York faces a New Jersey team that is looking for its fifth straight win and sixth in its last seven overall. A good chance for the Devils to take advantage of their underdog role according to Dunkel, which has New Jersey favored straight up by 1/2 a goal. Dunkel Pick: New Jersey (+1 1/2). Tuesday's List of 13:

                  Nobody asked me, but..............

                  13) Dallas Morning News reports that no team has ever won Super Bowl with a run defense ranked less than 19th in NFL. Colts' run defense ranks last.

                  12) Bob Knight was chewing out one of his players last night during game, and kid had his head down, so Knight kind of flipped the kid under the chin, so he would raise his head and look him in eye. ESPNews called it "striking a player" so ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla was put in awkward position of explaining Knight's action. He totally defended Knight.

I saw it live, and didn't think it was a big deal, but once you have a rap sheet for this kind of thing, it sticks with you.

                  11) A judge in Massachusetts ruled that a burrito isn't a sandwich, clearing the way for a Mexican food place to open in a Worcester ****, against the wishes of an existing Panera Bread in the ****.

                  10) Part of why John Bunting got fired at North Carolina; he had Willie Parker on his team, but rarely used him, which helps explain why he didn't win much.

                  9) Parker, by the way, is first NFL RB to have two 70+ runs in same game-he didn't score on either one.

                  8) Weird seeing Chad Pennington check out the big screen to see if his pass to corner of end zone was caught; players use the video screen all during the game.

                  7) Brian Cashman musn't think much of pitcher Jaret Wright; he traded him to Orioles, but will still pay $4M of his $7M he is owed next season. Another guy getting paid to go away.

                  6) Only three NFL late games this week and two of them are Lions-Cardinals, Seattle-49ers. Guess they think everyone wants to watch Colt-Dallas game.

                  5) Aramis Ramirez signed with Cubs for five years, $73M, all guaranteed. What a country.

                  4) Bears-Giants was only Week 10 game where both sides had winning record going in.

                  3) After seeing Jeff Gordon on ESPN last night, can imagine what the hype for NASCAR on ESPN will be next year, when season gets closer.

                  2) Marquette was life-and-death to beat Idaho State Monday, winning 59-56 in OT. Not a good sign for the Golden Eagles.

                  1) Butler beat Notre Dame, 71-69, continuing momentum the mid-majors gathered last year, with George Mason, Wichita State making post-season runs.
