  • NL Cy Young

SouthernDandy offered me a bet of Chris Carpenter vs. the field, and I took the field at even odds. What are everyone's thoughts on the NL Cy Young...I would love for Roy O to get it, but I don't think he'll be able to pull it this year. I personally think that they'll give it Webb.

    Thoughts?

Roy O is the best pitcher in the NL, but I don't think he'll win.

Unfortunately I think the writers will vote Carp here
You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

Oswalt will not get it as he's on a shitty team and he needs to go somewhere else, because he would be winning more games.

          Tuesday: NL Cy Young
Chris Carpenter of the Cardinals could join Randy Johnson and Greg Maddux as the only repeat NL winner since this award was divided into two league recipients in 1967. But whoever does win it was not exactly a no-brainer.

There was a six-way tie for the league lead in victories at just 16 -- the fewest wins by an NL single-season leader in any year not shortened by labor issues. Carpenter (3.09 ERA) wasn't even part of that six-way tie, winning 15 games, but he was crucial to another division title. Brandon Webb (16-8, 3.10 ERA) of the Diamondbacks is likely to be his chief competition, unless the voters went with a reliever like San Diego's Trevor Hoffman (NL-best 46 saves) by default.

You can't give the award to someone who have less than 18 wins. That is real bad if he wins. Cards win this year because of Pujols, not Carpenter.
