Why did Glavine decline his option with the Mets? He was doing well there with a solid team. Do you think he wants to finish @ home in Boston???
It was expected that both he and the team would decline their options. They are still working on a deal and I read over the weekend that the Mets are still expecting to sign him.
My question is this....I know they only pay the $42 million IF they sign him. Let's say after 30 days, they do not sign him...does the next highest bidder get 30 days to sign? If not, perhaps the Red Sox put a huge offer in just to gain the rights with no intention of signing him to keep him away from the Yankees? Could this happen? It would not cost them a dime....
no..after 30 days then he has to go back and pitch in japan... 1 1/2hr left till we know

I read something that said after 30 days he's a free agent. Once the Japanese team accepts the $42 million, he's free. I was wondering could the Yankees tell his agent we'll pay more than they will and RedSox would just lose the $42 mil, but I doubt it.

No no... I believe if they except the 42 million bid, then they have 30 day's to negotiate..if nothing is done he has to pitch in japan for another year and then become a free agent next year
Lovedoc...so The Sox won the bidding...they only pay the $51 million if they sign him. If they do not, he can't pitch for anyone in MLB and it does not cost them a cent? So, if that is the case, they can low-ball him and let hin walk and no one gets him?
If this is all true, could the Sox braintrust just offered a boat load of cash ($51 million) with no intent to sign him just to keep him away from the Evil Empire?

the sox get the 51 back if he doesnt sign. they arent throwing that coin away
I leave on Sunday for 3 weeks. I knew they get the 51 back (they only lose it if they sign him), but does he go to the next bidder, or does he have to go back to Japan, if he doesn't sign with the Sox?
