        DATE & TIME: Wednesday, November 8th, 4:00 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Breslin Center (14,759) -- East Lansing, Michigan. Television: None. Home Record: YSU 0-0, CMU 0-0. Away Record: YSU 0-0, CMU 0-0. Neutral Record: YSU 0-0, CMU 0-0. Conference Record: YSU 0-0, CMU 0-0. Series Record: Central Michigan leads, 4-0.

GAME NOTES: In the first round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic, benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer, the Youngstown State Penguins clash with the Central Michigan Chippewas. The winner of this contest will take on either Michigan State or Brown tomorrow night. The Penguins return some players with experience and two solid starters in their backcourt, but the team is coming off a 7-21 ledger and not much improvement is expected this season. As for the Chippewas, they enter the 2006-07 campaign with a new head coach in Ernie Ziegler, and fortunately CMU returns all five starters from last year. Much like their counterpart, the Chippewas struggled in '05-'06, finishing a dismal 4-24. But unlike YSU, Central Michigan is expected to make tremendous strides this season. With respect to the all-time series between these two schools, the Chippewas have won all four previous meetings. The last matchup took place in 1989, a game in which CMU earned a hard-fought 67-66 victory.

The Penguins do come into the season with some talented players, but none more so than guard Quin Humphrey. Humphrey is quite possibly the best player in the Horizon League. The senior is coming off a tremendous season in which he averaged 19.2 ppg and 8.3 rpg, and those numbers would explain why he was named to the preseason All-Horizon team. Keston Roberts will most likely join Humphrey once again in the backcourt. Roberts has a tendency to run hot and cold, but overall the 6-4 guard is a solid offensive option and will see plenty of looks while opponents try to contain Humphrey. In the frontcourt is where the Penguins will likely have some issues, as the team lacks that formidable presence down low. John Barber will most likely be the top option there, as the forward finished second on the squad last season with 4.4 rpg. Coach Jerry Slocum is also expecting big things from sophomore Jack Liles. As a freshman, Liles started 16 games, proving to be a solid defensive force and at times he also showed some offensive spark.

As mentioned previously, the Chippewas are coming off a dreadful season and are entering this campaign with a new coach. Ziegler inherits a team with just two seniors, but a lot promising talent. In the frontcourt, the squad returns a solid duo in Chris Kellermann and Justin Blevins. Kellermann, a 6-8 forward, averaged 8.8 ppg and 6.5 ppg as a freshman last season, while Blevins, who checks in at 6-7, chipped in with 5.8 ppg. At 7-1, Drew Walker gives CMU some much needed size in the paint, although he is still raw, posting just 2.5 ppg last year. As for the backcourt, that is where the Chippewas have the most talent thanks to the return of Giordan Watson and Sefton Barrett. Watson was a solid floor general last season and is expected to do the same this winter after leading the team in scoring (13.8 ppg), assists (4.4 apg) and steals (43) in 2005-06. As for Barrett, he also had an impressive run last season, as he averaged 13.6 ppg, in addition to leading the club in rebounding (6.5 rpg).
