After watching the first few nights of NBA Basketball, I wondered how two changes may alter the way the games are handicapped.
1) New Ball - Of course the players are on a learning curve with this ball, but it seems that they are adjusting. One reason the league moved to this ball is what they referred to as the "consistency" of the synthetic. Meaning that all balls are the same, and play the same coming out of the box as they do late in a game or after many uses. Does anyone think that this "consistency" will affect handicapping at all? Will the first few weeks of the season have Unders due to more turnovers, less free throws hit, worse FG %. Or will scoring Overs in the 2nd half of games be higher because the ball will be more consistent over 4 Quarters?
2) Rule Change - I have not looked the rule change up in detail, but it was referred to on many of the games I flipped back and forth on and that was a defender was not allowed to slow down the speed of progress of the offensive player. This rule was called constantly in the knicks game. It seemed every time a player drove to the hole a foul was called. Will this have impact? Will scores rise due to more free throws and time beign stopped at each foul?
And was it just me or did the circle in front of the backet that a player must be outside of to draw a charge get pushed out further?
Well I should know better then to post these "serious" types of handicapping questions since very few folks provided feedback on my last NFL question (thanks to those that did), but figured I would give it a shot.
