Pending wagers:
1* Cardinals to win world series +485 (posted Oct. 11)
1* Tigers to win World Series -110 (posted Oct. 22)
I've had an excellent baseball season, mostly because of careful selection of dogs. My biggest dog of all delivers if the Cards can win one more game as my future bet placed prior to the league championship series is alive with a back-hedge placed after game one of the world series. At the moment, I go +375 if the Cards win the series with no money lost if Detroit wins. I'd leave well enough alone but I like tonight's game enough to make it my first non-futures play in post-season.
1* Cardinals +115
Another dog for me and going for one last big score as I look for St. Louis to win the game and the whole series. Never mind the regular season---Weaver has pitched better than Verlander in the post-season. His experience edge in a crucial game is also a big asset. The Cards are at home and Detroit has embarrassed itself with sloppy play as its inexperience shows. This line should be -130 St. Louis, not the other way around.
One final thought: Leyland's decision to not use Kenny Rogers tonight is probably astute. Rogers would be booed off the mound in St. Louis. If Verlander can win tonight, the Tigers come back with Rogers at home and could conceivably win three in a row. If the Cardinals don't win tonight's game, they are in trouble.
