I went 4-1 last weekend in college football, was 6-2 pro and college combined and am 13-4 my last 17 football selections.
1* North Carolina +8 1/2
College teams often come up big the week a coach is fired, especially if he sticks around for the following game. NC is one of the most disappointing teams in the country but is getting a lot of points at home in what could be an emotional game as Bunting was the first coach this year in CFB to be canned. Even though Wake Forest is 6-1, they don't have much offense so getting a lot of points presents solid value.
1* Navy +14
This was going to be a BIG play for me and then Navy's QB (and leading rusher) went and got hurt. I still like it, although not as much. Notre Dame has won an astonishing 42 in a row but Navy has been covering most years. Give Paul Johnson two weeks to prepare and have a semi-home game (it's in Baltimore) and he's deadly. They've had enough time to adjust in practice to a new QB. Notre Dame keeps pulling rabbits out of the hat, obscuring the fact that they are only a good, not awesome, team.
1* Washington -1
Huskies are a solid team, taling USC to the wire and Cal to overtime, both on the road. Arizona State is improving but I'll lay the tiny number as Wash returns home.
1* Washington State +1 1/2
Don't overreact to UCLA's near miss at Notre Dame. Several teams have played the Irish tough. UCLA QB situation remains uncertain. Wash State is the third best team in the Pac-10 and becomes bowl eligible with the win.
1* Rutgers -18 1/2
(This game is Sunday night). UConn looked awful last week in a home drubbing to West Virginia and now travels to meet an unbeaten Rutgers team that gets a rare home game on national TV (and the only big sports even Sunday night if the World Series is already over). Rutgers has an outstanding defense and UConn doesn't stop anybody so I'm willing to lay the fat number. Rutgers shouldn't be looking ahead to Louisville as that game will be eleven days away.
Opinions only:
Tulsa
Western Michigan
San Jose State
NFL:
(two plays posted now because I think the lines will move against me)
2* Broncos -2 1/2 (-115)
1* Bears/49ers UNDER 42
Write-ups and more NFL plays later.
