Game 235-236: NY Giants at Dallas
Dunkel Ratings: NY Giants 134.243; Dallas 133.618
Dunkel Line: NY Giants by 1; 42 1/2
Vegas Line: Dallas by 3; 45
Dunkel Pick: NY Giants (+3); Under
13) Michigan State was down 38-3 in second half at Evanston as Spartan AD was going through his list of candidates to replace John L. Smith as head coach. Then State rallied to win 41-38, college football's greatest-ever comeback, so Spartans are 4-4, and will be favored in next three games. Does Smith keep his job if he finishes 7-5 and goes bowling?
12) Wisconsin beat Purdue easily, 24-3, but when it was 17-3 with 13:00 left, they called a fake punt that was open by thirty yards for easy TD, but receiver dropped pass. Announcers then questioned whether it was a good call or not. Um, if the receiver catches the ball, he could have crawled into the end zone; of course it was good call. The execution wasn't good.
11) Kansas has been outscored 61-18 in second half of their last two games; they're 0-3 on road, losing 37-31ot/39-32ot and 36-35, when they led 35-17 at the half. You look at their results, this year, and they're 3-5, when they very easily could be 8-0. Their worst loss is 42-32 vs Oklahoma State; they led that game 14-0 at the half. You are what you are, but.......
10) Texas A&M tied their game at Oklahoma State with 0:02 left, then won in OT when Cowboys missed PAT. A&M has also played ton of close games; they've trailed in second half in their last four games, but won the last three.
9) In their two losses, Pitt Panthers allowed 334, 268 yards on the ground; the way to beat them is to run right at them, but not everyone can do that as well as Rutgers did in 20-10 win Saturday. 7-0 Scarlet Knights really run the ball well.
8) Funny thing, when Rutgers visited North Carolina back on Labor Day weekend, Tar Heels were 6-point favorite. Knights still haven't lost, while UNC still hasn't beat a I-A team. What would spread on that game be now?
7) Minnesota 10, North Dakota State 9, bad score for Gophers but State had been 6-0 in I-AA coming in. Still...................
6) Not to say Vince Young misses college ball, but he was in Lincoln on a cold, miserable day watching Longhorns rally to beat Nebraska. He didn't dress warm enough; looked like he was freezing, standing there on his bye week.
5) Weatherford threw horrible, amateurish INT for TD in the last thirty seconds of first half vs BC. I can blame the coaches for that one, since they weren't scoring from where they were on field, anyway. Jeff Bowden will have a long week. Florida State is now 2-3 in their last five games.
4) How bad is Stanford? They're 0-8, losing 38-3 to Arizona State team that had lost their three previous games by a total score of 125-55. Cardinal still has to play USC and Cal.
3) Cal survived -5 turnover ratio to beat Washington in OT; they also allowed Hail Mary TD pass to tie game and force OT, but they survived that. Spunky effort by Washington, playing with backup QB Bonnell.
2) Hawai'i had 34 passes, 33 runs in their win at New Mexico State; when was last time Warriors had that much balance?
1) Nebraska lost to Texas, but Bill Calllahan is my coaching hero; on drive that put Huskers up 20-19, he used a halfback option pass, right after he had called double reverse. When was last time you saw a team use two trick plays on the same drive so late in a close game? Both plays worked, too.
13) Curse of the Super Bowl loser continues, as Hasselbeck is hurt now, and Seattle cheaped out on their backup QB, so it is big problem for them, especially with Alexander also out.
12) Matt Bryant drilled a 62-yard FG, third-longest in history of the NFL, to beat Eagles in great game. Bryant's career long FG before Sunday was only fifty yards.
11) Donovan McNabb had a bad day, throwing two INTs for TDs, blowing FG at end of first half by throwing short pass in middle of field, and also puking on field early in fourth quarter but he drove Eagles to what looked like winning TD with 0:33 left. Does McNabb have a conditioning problem? Looked like the heat got to him a little bit.
10) Eagles outrushed Bucs 208-111, Tampa didn't have a TD on offense, but still won. That doesn't happen very much.
9) Miami is now 2-16 vs spread in last 18 tries as home fave.
8) When Morten Andersen was an NFL rookie, thirteen of his current Atlanta teammates weren't born yet.
7) Chad Johnson's career TD catches by quarter: 14-10-1-10.
6) Packer OL Daryn Colledge went to high school in Alaska; one of the fields he played on there had volcanic ash on it.
5) Steeler-Falcon game went over the total with 5:00 left in the first half. Last time teams played, it ended 34-all tie, last tie the NFL has had. Next time they play, should be Monday game.
4) Watching Antwaan Randle El return punts is worth price of the DirecTV package by itself, but Redskins have allowed opponents to scored TD on first drive of second half in each of last three games. Not what Mr Snyder is paying for.......
Speaking of that game, I am thinking Peyton Manning's knee was banged up a little. They won't say anything, but......
3) Total yardage in Texans' 27-7 win over Jaguars: 349-220. Big day for Kubiak's Houston team.
2) I like watching NFL Network's highlight show, but it must be muted, thats how awful Deion Sanders is.
1) Arizona's coaching staff must be barrel of laughs; the guy Denny Green demoted has filed a grievance against Cardinals for demoting him, but he's still around, doing something. Now that they lost 22-9 to 0-5 Oakland, getting nine first downs, wonder if they still think it was all his fault?
Cardinals have 11 takeaways in last two games, and lost both games; am guessing that has never happened before in NFL.

Giants (3-2) @ Cowboys (3-2)- Big Blue 8-4 in last 12 games vs Cowboys, 3-3 vs Parcells, with two of Tuna's three wins in OT. Giants played two sound games since bye; neither Redskins or Falcons snapped ball in Giant red zone. Since allowing 35 first half points in Seattle, Giants have outscored foes 73-24 in 10 quarters. Dallas allowed 24,38 pts in their losses, 10-14-6 in the wins. Giants scored 30-30-27 pts in their three road games. Media loves to kill Bledsoe, but Dallas offense ranks 3rd on third down (42.7%), 4th in red zone (5.37), T2nd in TDs (16); only Eagles (21) have scored more TDs. Giants split their last six visits to this site. Not sure what effect Barber's bizarre declaration that he might be retiring will have on the team.
