  • Question

I know it isn't the first time it has happened, but does anyone know why both baseball games start at the same time tonight?
Usually games are staggered for tv ratings (of course with pip this is possible).

well, the mets are a must for prime time TV, and the alcs is in oakland so they arnt gonna play that game in the afternoon. imo ratings will be good across the country tonight so it really makes no difference

Oakland plays a lot of weekday afternoon games during the regular season;thus I don't think it would be that big a deal for their game to start at 4:30 or 5:00 East Coast Time(1:30 or 2:00 in Oakland).

It's a big deal for ticket sales between a day game or night game when most are not working i bet!

Well then how come Oakland has so many afternoon games during the regular season?
I would think if they weren't financially successful, they would have night games instead, no?

savage i know this. A prime time tv commercial sells for a HELL of ALOT more than one does at 3 pm.

The bottom line is money and we both know it!

You are probably right-when you stop and think about it, after all, is is the 2nd round playoffs, and the financial mindset is different from say a regular season game.

This is part of the baseball contract signed last year that gave MLB zillions of bucks.

Fox has all post-season games from the LCS on. Their desire is to have two games at night so they can split the feed and send the games to the markets with the most interest (east coast would get the Mets; west coast the A's, etc.). They

Fox believes this maximizes the ratings. Nobody cares about weekday afternoon ratings; there aren't enough viewers.
