  • Weekend CFB

    CFB YTD 13-7 +4.1 units
    2* 1-2 -2.4 units
    1* 12-5 +6.5 units

    CFB/NFL Combined 18-13 +3.4 units
    2* 2-2 -0.4 units
    1* 16-11 +3.8 units

It is possible I will add a couple of games later on. If so, I will do so in this thread. I am also posting one NFL game now.

    2* Houston -17
I don't look for a letdown here as Houston is having its best season in a long time. They almost won on the road at Miami and now play a Lou-Laf team that is overmatched and probably looking ahead to its next conference game. Houston is a veteran team and QB Kolb is putting up major numbers. Houston by 34.

    1* Okalahoma +4 1/2
Upset. Sooners turned a corner and came together as a team when robbed in Oregon a few weeks ago. They've looked awesome since. I expect them to win this game straight up against a Texas team that is a little over-rated. Play asap; line may be down to +3 by Saturday.

    1* Tulane +2
Rice is playing its FIFTH straight road game. And they're favored? Tulane is probably emotionally better prepared now than in its first game back in New Orleans. Rice has played a very tough schedule and is likely beaten up. Besides, should Rice ever be favored on the road?

    1* Mississippi State +24
This is just too many points. Miss State has a decent defense and has played a much tougher schedule than West Virginia. WV may be looking ahead and that's dangerous as they are on the road against an SEC team.

    1* Mississippi +1 1/2
Vanderbilt is favored on the road? C'mon. Mississippi had a much improved performance last week against an outstanding Georgia team. Vandy has played two patsies in a row and has to travel and isn't as game-tested as Ole Miss.

    1* Hawaii -10 1/2
Hawaii is better than people think. They played Boise very tough on the road two weeks ago and, if you haven't noticed, Boise is going to run the table and go to a BCS bowl. Before that, they took Alabama to the wire on the road. Nevada is coming off a road win against their big in-state rival and is likely to be very flat. Hawaii always real strong in these home games.

NFL (posting now as line is moving against me):

    1* Oakland/San Fran OVER 41
I'll write it up later but these are two bad defenses.

    (More NFL plays on Saturday)

Like the card gris. Love OU, and this is June Jones' best team in Hawaii. Miss St and Tulane were strong leans of mine as well.

I like it Gris! I live in Reno, and there's a lot of talk (whining) by the Nevada coaches about not having enough time to adjust to the time difference (it's a night game, with Hawai'i being 5 hours behind us). this combined with "we're gonna do our best. Their quarter back may be the best in the conference or the entire league". I've heard this kind of talk before, and while I'd never place a bet based on something a player says, generally when a coach is basically saying "don't expect too much", I think it's at least worth looking at.
Oh, and Vandy winning on the road? I went to Vandy (that's where the coincidences end, I promise), and I would place them at 7 point dogs (if I was running the lines). We didn't beat a terrible ar-kansas team. Good luck Gris!

You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

I've been meaning to post since the beginning of the season touting Hawaii this year as I've been a semi-lurker/poster on this board for the past couple of years, but my relative inexperience capping games and teams kept me from posting anything about my home team. But TP said it, this is the best team June Jones has had in his time here. Brennan is a legit D1 QB with the potential to play Sundays and Bess and Rivers also have D1 talent. 3 members of the O-Line have played together for a couple of years and all 3 will play on Sundays.

Defense is much improved over a year ago. Glanville has the players reacting and playing faster in his system. They also have the horses this year..... this is probably the most athletic defense they've ever had. They're two-deep at the four LB positions and all of 'em can run and hit. Purcell and Alama-Francis have both bulked up to the 280-290 lb range and are holding up much better against the run. Secondary is slowly coming together..... watch out for CJ Hawthorne..... he's a big play waiting to happen.

Biggest thing about this team is they have character. Two years ago, if they get down 15-0 in Boise, they're gonna lose 69-3...... wait a second, that did happen. Tammy Ching was the QB back then..... he just didn't have the intangibles. This team fights till the end..... you saw it at Bama and at Boise. Barring late starts and a couple of key turnovers/ST breakdowns, this team could be 4-0.

This weekend's game against Nevada should be a good one and Hawaii will be ready. The offense is clicking and Glanville will come up with some good schemes to stop the "Pistol" offense.

                    Hawaii by 2 TD's.
