If Tigers can't hold on to first place with three games against KC at home as opposed to Minn., which has Chicago at home, it doesn't bode well for them at all for the playoffs.

From taday's NY Post...Pohlad is crazy!

In an unusually strong statement from an owner, the Twins' Carl Pohlad said he prefers to play the Yankees over the A's in the playoffs.

"Because I know we can beat them," Pohlad told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

While George Steinbrenner responded with a "no comment" and the Yankees for the most part shrugged off the words, Gary Sheffield offered a warning.

"Be careful what you ask for," Sheffield said before the Yankees were held to one hit by Daniel Cabrera in a 7-1 loss to the Orioles last night. The Yankees still don't know for sure if they will play Minnesota, because if the Twins were to come back and win the AL Central, the Yankees would face Detroit in the ALDS.

Pohlad's desire to beat the Yankees is personal, according to the Pioneer-Press. The article said there is no one Pohlad would rather beat than The Boss.

"I'd rather play the Yankees [than the A's,] because I know we can beat them," Pohlad said before whispering to the Pioneer-Press reporter, "That's right."

While the Pioneer-Press didn't say why Pohlad doesn't like Steinbrenner, it may be because Pohlad has refused to pour money into the Twins despite being one of the richest businessmen in the world - a practice Steinbrenner has criticized in the past.

Sheffield, a veteran of five postseasons, said it is unwise to want to play a certain club in the playoffs.

"That's good," Sheffield said of Pohlad's comments. "Going into the playoffs, I would never say who I want to play. Whoever we face we have to be up for the task. That's all there is to it. When you think that you can handpick someone, sometimes it doesn't work that way."
