        Wisconsin at Michigan (-14), total 44 ½
        Noon ET, ESPN

Which Big Ten team is more money? Last week`s South Bend demolition will undoubtedly turn a lot of casual bettors onto Michigan, but it`s Wisconsin with the preferable betting trends.

The Badgers have covered the last four head-to-head meetings and seven of the last nine. And their last game as dogs away from home? A nice 24-10 win over Auburn in last winter`s Capital One Bowl with the Tigers favored by 10. John Stocco`s 12-game streak throwing at least one touchdown pass might be in jeopardy - the Wolverines were the last team to keep him out of the end zone last September.

        Minnesota at Purdue (+2 ½), total 65
        Noon ET, ESPN2

Total of 65 seem high? Try this on for size: five of the last 10 head-to-head meetings between Minnesota and Purdue have topped 77 points, topping out with 1997`s 59-43 shootout. And each team is averaging over 40 points a game so far in 2006.

A big reason for the big output is quarterback play. The Boilermakers` Curtis Painter completed 30 of 39 passes for 414 yards against Ball State last week and had four total touchdowns through the air and on the ground. Bryan Cupito, in the meantime, was indeed a Golden Gopher against Temple last week as he threw for four first half touchdowns before mercifully leaving the game.

Louisville at Kansas State (+14), total 55 ½
        Noon ET, FSN

Kansas State rebounded from an unconvincing opener against Division 1-AA Illinois State to cover its last two spreads, but they can`t keep up with Louisville in terms of impressing football nation. The Cardinals` win over Miami last weekend makes them 3-0 SU and ATS with an obnoxious +117 point differential.

Hunter Cantwell takes the snaps for Louisville in place of former Heisman Trophy-hopeful Brian Brohm. The last game Cantwell started for the Cardinals was the team`s 35-24 loss to Virginia Tech in last year`s Gator Bowl, a game Louisville entered as 10-point underdogs.

Cincinnati at Virginia Tech (-26), total 44 ½
        Noon ET, ESPNU

Speaking of the Hokies, Virginia Tech concludes the warmup segment of its schedule when Cincinnati comes to Blacksburg on Saturday. The Hokies have been remarkably consistent so far, scoring between 35 and 38 points in each of its games while allowing only 10 total points.

Bearcat backers may want to bank on Virginia Tech looking ahead to its upcoming ACC battles with Georgia Tech and Boston College. They should be warned, however, that the Hokies faced Ohio last year under similar scheduling circumstances and easily covered the 34-point spread before laying beatings on the Yellow Jackets and West Virginia.

        Tulsa at Navy (-5), total 54 ½
        1:30 p.m. ET, CSTV

Navy has won six straight games dating back to last year, rushing the ball at least 51 times in each of those wins. The offensive imbalance in 2006 has reached comical proportions - the Midshipmen are averaging 341 yards on the ground and only 35 in the air.

Tulsa, on the other hand, has relied on Paul Smith`s arm to lead them to a 2-1 record, though the team failed miserably in its one true test so far against BYU.

Navy won the last head-to-head meeting 29-0 in a game the books had deemed to be a pick `em in 2004.

        Alabama at Arkansas (-2 ½), total 37 ½
        3:30 p.m. ET, CBS

Arkansas has covered the spread in the last three games between these SEC West rivals, but the Razorbacks have yet to cover this season. They`ll lean heavily on freshman quarterback Mitch Mustain, fresh off a three-touchdown performance against Vanderbilt, to reverse that trend.

Alabama finally scored a convincing win against UL-Monroe last weekend after unimpressive games against Hawaii and Vanderbilt to start the season. It`s John Parker Wilson`s first start on the road, but in his limited backup action last year Wilson completed four of five passes in rival SEC stadiums including a touchdown toss to help the Tide cover in South Carolina.

Penn State at Ohio State (-16 ½), total 46
        3:30 p.m. ET, ABC

It’s hard to believe for such a high profile team, but Ohio State has won and covered in 10 straight games dating back to last season. The last team to beat them? Penn State, last year in a soggy defensive battle in Happy Valley.

The Nits won 17-10 as 3-point dogs and the hero was linebacker Paul Posluszny, who collected 14 tackles and kept the Bucks offense stalled all night. This year Posluszny’s speed has been questioned following a knee injury in January’s Orange Bowl, but he swears he hasn’t lost a step.

We’ll find out against Troy Smith and an OSU receiving corps that just might be the best in the nation. There is no question Smith is a much improved passer since Penn State saw him last year and he’s completed 69 percent of his passes with no interceptions so far.

Iowa State at Texas (-24), total 54
        3:30 p.m. ET, ABC

Texas is still angry about losing to Ohio State in Week 2, which has to make Iowa State bettors a little nervous. The Horns beat up on Rice last weekend 52-7 and produced a pair of 100-yard efforts from tailbacks Selvin Young and Jamaal Charles.

The Cyclones have a respectable rush defense though, which they hope will force freshman Colt McCoy to test his arm. He struggled against the Buckeyes when the run game was stymied and it could be the key to the cover for ISU.

The Longhorns defense, meanwhile, needs to respect a multi-faceted Iowa State offense. Catch-everything receiver Todd Blythe and tailback Stevie Hicks are both capable of game-breaking performances and QB Bret Meyer is a dual threat who keeps opposing linebackers on their toes.

Both teams have Division 1-AA patsies on the sked next week so there are no excuses for a poor showing from either side.

Arizona State at California (-7 ½), total 57
        3:30 p.m. ET, FSN

Arizona State`s 3-0 record looks great, but its back-to-back-to-back games against Cal, Oregon and USC will certainly test the team`s mettle.

The home team has won six of the last eight in this Pac-10 battle and in the only game at Berkeley this decade (in 2004), the Golden Bears scored a convincing 27-0 win over a bowl-bound Sun Devils team that ended up 9-3.

After a rough opener at Rocky Top, Nate Longshore has quieted critics with big numbers in back-to-back Cal wins over Minnesota and Portland State.

Rice at Florida State (-30), total 47
        3:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Bettors can make an argument either way with the Seminoles. Florida State is 4-9 ATS as a double-digit favorite since the start of the 2004 season. But in both 2004 and 2005, FSU was made an overwhelming favorite immediately following its first loss of the season and covered the whopping spreads each time.

Rice is used to the role of underdog. It`s the Owls` fourth time as a double-digit dog in four games this year and they managed to cover the spread with ease against both Houston and UCLA to start the season. Rice`s last visit to an ACC campus ended up in a narrow 27-24 OT loss, though it should be noted that 2003 matchup was at Duke and not one of the conference`s power squads.

West Virginia at East Carolina (+21), total 53 ½
        4:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2

East Carolina came to Morgantown last year and scared the Mountaineers, losing 20-15 but easily covering the 22-point spread. That was before, however, West Virginia cemented Pat White and Steve Slaton as everyday starters in the backfield.

The Mountaineers have rushed for over 300 yards and at least four rushing touchdowns in each of their three games to start 2006. Expect more of the same against East Carolina, who allowed over 400 yards on the ground against Navy to start the season. Looks like a potential stat-padder for Slaton`s Heisman resume.

        UCLA at Washington (+3 ½), total 52 ½
        7 p.m. ET, TBS

UCLA enters this week’s road game after a bye last Saturday, and they’ve used the time to work on offense. First-year starting QB Ben Olson has been studying film and says he’s learned more about reading defenses.

That’s a concern for the Huskies seeing as how Olson threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns in a win and cover against Utah last game.

Washington is coming off a big win over a respectable Fresno State team and coach Ty Willingham announced at this week’s press conference that his aim is to win the Pac-10. History isn’t on his side right out of the conference gate though - UCLA has won the last four times it met the Huskies following a bye.

South Florida at Kansas (-5 ½), total 43
        7 p.m. ET, FSN

South Florida is faring well in the race to be recognized as the Big East`s third-best team. They`re 3-0 and impressed with a road win against UCF last weekend in the midst of controversy around suspended players. Redshirt freshman Matt Grothe won the fulltime quarterback job and excelled so far.

Quarterback Kerry Meier will have to improve his accuracy if Kansas wants to cover. The freshman tossed four interceptions against Toledo under the Friday night lights last week.

Miami (OH) at Syracuse (-6 ½), total 41
        7 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Syracuse hasn’t had a playmaker like Taj Smith since Marvin Harrison was tearing up the turf at the Carrier Dome. The junior receiver made the Big East honor role for his play in last weekend’s 31-21 win over Illinois and if you saw his 65-yard catch-and-run touchdown play to give the Orange the lead in the second quarter, you’d know this kid is special.

He’s part of the reason why Syracuse has started the season 3-0 ATS for the first time since they kicked off the 1999 season with five straight paydays. But giving a touchdown to the Redhawks, this will be the Orange’s first game as the favorite this season. They were 1-3 as a favorite last season.

        Kentucky at Florida (-23 ½), total 54 ½
        7:45 p.m. ET, ESPN

Kentucky has been a decent bet in conference play in recent years, covering the spread in 19 of its 33 SEC games since 2002. They`ve been a downright great bet against Florida over that same span - they`ve lost all four games but covered the double-digit spread each and every time.

Bettors should be aware of the letdown potential for the Gators after last week`s win in Tennessee. Urban Meyer may already be focusing on the Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Georgia games that directly follow this weekend`s contest against the Wildcats.

Notre Dame at Michigan State (+3 ½), total 59
        8 p.m. ET, ABC

Notre Dame is coming off a beating to Michigan that must still be smarting as they head into East Lansing this weekend. Brady Quinn tossed an uncharacteristic three interceptions against the Wolverines and he’ll be after some redemption on several levels.

Last year he threw for five touchdowns against Michigan State, but couldn’t complete a great comeback in a 44-41 overtime loss. Michigan State was a 6 ½-point underdog and the visiting team has now won and covered in the last five meetings between these two foes.

The Irish will want to clean up things in the secondary after getting burned by Michigan’s receivers. The Spartans own the No. 3 overall offense in the nation this year led by senior QB Drew Stanton, and they’re a perfect 3-0 ATS.

        USC at Arizona (+21), total 51 ½
        8 p.m. ET, ABC

USC has a beef with TV. The Trojans sent a letter to ABC this week expressing their discontent with long-time play-by-play man Brent Musburger, who apparently revealed some privileged information to a national television audience.

With less than 10 minutes left in the final quarter in Saturday’s game against Nebraska, Musburger told viewers that USC QB John David Booty uses the ‘hang loose’ surfer sign when he spots man-to-man coverage on defense. Booty apparently gave up the info at a standard production meeting with the station on Friday.

This isn’t an uncommon practice in college football in attempts from the players to give the broadcast team a helping hand. However, the info is relayed in confidence so you can understand why USC is upset.

Interestingly, USC is back on ABC this week but since it’s a regional telecast, Musburger won’t be in the booth.

Key game note: Arizona QB Willie Tuitama has recovered from his concussion suffered against LSU two weeks ago and is expected to start.

Boston College at North Carolina State (+6 ½), total 41
        8 p.m. ET, ESPNU

The heat is on Chuck Amato more than ever. His solution? Distract everyone with a new quarterback. Daniel Evans will start for the Wolfpack after taking just six snaps all last season and making zero pass attempts.

Boston College sits atop the ACC Atlantic after nice home wins against Clemson and BYU. The Eagles were 2-2 SU and ATS in conference road games in their initial ACC campaign.

Boston College easily covered as four-point favorites when the teams met in Chestnut Hill last year, beating the Wolfpack 30-10.

Oklahoma State at Houston (+1), total 55 ½
        9 p.m. ET, CSTV

The books have already played with this line a lot this week, with Houston making the jump from three-point favorites to underdogs in less than a day.

Oklahoma State`s 3-0 record and combined score of 135 to 25 is great, but the competition has been lacking in quality so far. They definitely haven`t faced a quarterback of Kevin Kolb`s quality, which should make this game interesting. Kolb has passed for at least a pair of majors in all three Houston wins so far.

Michigan rolled in South Bend last week; they're scoring 38.3 ppg this year, and outrushing foes 641-77 in three games. Offense is just 7-26 on 3rd down last two games. Wolverines are already +8 in turnovers, with defense scoring twice last week. Wisconsin is 3-0, but they were scoreless vs San Diego State midway thru 3rd quarter last week; Major step up in competition for Badger club that covered 11 of last 15 as road dog and eight of last 11 vs Michigan.

Minnesota is 12-5 vs spread in last 17 tries as road favorite, but 9-16 vs spread in last 25 Big 11 road games; they're 3-9-1 vs spread in last 13 games vs Purdue. Boilers have injury issues in secondary, allowing 31.3 ppg so far in '06, but they're 3-0, thanks to offense averaging 473 ypg. Gophers ran for 301 yards vs Purdue last year, with 572-426 total yardage edge in OT win. Boilers 24-10 vs spread in Big 11 home games.

Miami OH lost as 14-pt home favorite to Kent last week, after falling in OT at Purdue week before; they've been outgained 505-329 on ground in three games and have scored just three first half pts in three games. Syracuse ended losing skid last week at Illinois; they've allowed 20+ pts in all three games, are favored for first time this year. SU plays good defense (six INTs already in '06) but both their losses came vs teams playing a backup QB.

Louisville missing star RB Bush, star QB Brohm, hitting road after emotional home win over Miami (first-ever win vs 'canes) so they're at risk here, facing K-State squad that is 3-0 after wins over three cupcakes. K-State snuck by Herd on road last year, as coaching miscue denied Marshall shot at winning FG in last minute. Wildcats covered five in row as home dog. Cards have covered 15 of last 23 as road favorite.

Florida in Tennessee/Alabama sandwich after great win in Knoxville last week; they're 4-11 vs spread in last 15 tries as SEC home favorite. Kentucky is 1-0 in SEC for first time in 19 years; they trailed Gators 49-7 at half last year, before rallying to cover game, 49-28, their fourth straight series cover. UK lost last two visits to Swamp 41-34/20-3; they were outgained 395-280 by Ole Miss last week, but five takeaways won game for 'cats.

Florida State lost at home to Clemson last week after struggling with Troy week before; FSU offense averages just 49 ypg on ground and has been outscored 27-12 in first half of games. Rice is changing philosophy; they're 1-6 in last seven tries as road dog, and 0-3 SU this year, losing by 1,10,45 pts, playing schedule only a bean counter could like (UCLA, Texas, FSU on consecutive Saturdays). Seminoles 1-5 in last six tries as home favorite.

Navy went to Tulsa and shut Hurricane out 29-0 in '04 (+1). Middies opened new Stanford Stadium last week by whacking Cardinal, 37-9; they've run ball for 346 ypg in three games, but won their home games by just 1,5 pts. Middies have only seven penalties in three games. Tulsa lost only road game 49-24 at improved BYU; they've won eight of last ten regular season games SU.

Virginia Tech was laying 35 to Duke last week, won 36-0, hard to buck Beamer when laying heavy lumber; they've covered 13 of last 18 as home favorite, 33 of last 44 non-league games. Tech could unveil Matt Jones-type tall WR this week. Cincinnati did hang close for while in Columbus last week, but wore down late; they're 3-5-2 as road dog under this coach, thanks to Buckeyes' 52-yd FG with 1:14 left LW to give Tressel the cover.

Home side covered last eight Ohio St-Penn St games, with Lions losing last two visits to Horseshoe, 13-7/21-10; last five series games were decided by total of 27 pts, with Lions upsetting OSU 17-10 LY (+3). JoePa covered just two of last 13 Big 11 openers and three of last nine as road dog. Buckeyes covered 14 of last 19 Big 11 home games. OSU has allowed just 8.7 ppg and has thrown ball for 287.3 ypg this year, so they're balanced. Lions lost only road game this year 41-17 at Notre Dame.

Iowa State covered six of last eight as road dog, including 27-17 loss at Iowa last week, where they outrushed Iowa 171-136, led 14-10 at half but had lousy second half. Texas crushed Rice after losing to Ohio State; they've covered six of last seven tries as home favorite, and are 38-25 vs spread in last 63 Big 12 games (60.3%). Teams haven't met since '03; Texas won last two series meetings, 40-19 (-17), 21-10 (-12). Longhorns had 19 penalties last week for 148 yards; that's a red flag against them.

Cal won last three games vs Arizona State (55-38/51-23/27-0, but teams didn't play last year; Sun Devils off to 3-0 after win at Colorado last week- they've outscored foes 49-7 in second half this year. Hard to tell where Bears are, but Longshore is set as #1 QB, at least. Cal is 19-12-1 vs spread in Pac-10 play last four years. Sun Devils covered just two of last seven series games, are 4-13 as road dog, 6-14 in Pac-10 road tilts.

UCLA is just 11-25-1 vs spread in last 37 Pac-10 road games, 3-6 vs spread after bye, but they've won five in row vs Washington, winning last two trips to Seattle (34-24/37-31) as Bruins are 7-1-1 vs spread in last nine series games. Huskies are 2-9-1 vs spread in last dozen Pac-10 openers; they had good home win vs Fresno last week and were tied at half at Oklahoma the week before, so they're getting better. U-dub still allowing 28.7 ppg, but UCLA hasn't been great on road.

New Mexico is already 0-2 at home this year; they've been outscored 45-20 in second half of games this year, lost 21-13 at UTEP last year, even though they outrushed Miners 149-70. Home side covered nine of last 13 series games. UNM covered 13 of last 20 after loss; they had only 33 rushing yards in 27-17 loss to Missouri last week, as Tigers outgained them 396-201. UTEP scored 69 points in 1-1 start, losing in OT to Texas Tech; they're 11-6 vs spread in last 17 series games.

West Virginia has scored 46.3 ppg in 3-0 start, running ball for 348.7 ypg; they only threw nine passes in hammering Maryland last week, now hit road for first time in '06, vs improved East Carolina squad that trailed Memphis at half last week, but rallied to win, their first win in three tries (both losses by 5 pts). Pirates lost 20-15 at WVA last year (+21) holding Mountaineers to 127 yards on ground, so doubt WV takes them lightly. Holtz 11-3 vs spread as ECU's head coach.

NC State in freefall after losses to Akron, Southern Miss, now they get BC squad that won its last two games at home, in OT, and has banged-up QB in spunky leader Ryan. BC struggled in opener, winning 31-24 at Central Michigan, so 3-0 Eagles are no powerhouse; they've been outrushed by 73 yds thus far. Pack is switching to younger QB for this one, as Amato scrambles to save his job. BC has thrown 134 passes, run ball 95 times, very unusual ratio for them.

Frosh phenom Mustain 2-0 as Arkansas starter, but Hogs have zero takeaways and -7 turnover ratio in 2-1 start. Bama's Wilson making first road start under center; Tide gave up 237 rushing yards last year but survived Hogs 24-13 (was 7-3 at half). Bama just 2-6 vs spread in last eight SEC openers; home side is 5-3 vs spread in this series. Only one of last five series games was won by less than 11 pts; Alabama lost last visit here, 27-10, but has converted on 15 of last 27 third down plays this year.

Kansas QB Meier has pretty bad arm injury, could be replaced by former starter Barmann for this game; Jayhawks held Toledo without first down in second half last week but lost in overtime, failing to score on either OT drive- they're -7 in turnovers last two games, barely beating UL Monroe squad that lost 41-7 at Bama. South Florida is 3-0 after gutty 24-17 win at UCF last week; frosh QB Grothe is elusive runner. Bulls covered five of last seven games on artificial turf.

Michigan State won seven of last nine games vs Notre Dame, but Irish fared better at this site, winning last two visits (21-17/31-24); visitor covered seven of last nine series games. Quinn had 487 passing yards LY in 44-41 OT loss, after which Spartans stuck their flag in South Bend turf, not great idea. State scoring 39 ppg in 3-0 after road win at Pitt last week; both sides have quality senior QBs, so expect lot of plays to be made. Irish were 2-14 on third down last week, -4 in turnovers. They'll play much better here.

USC off to solid 2-0 start after dismissing Nebraska last week; Trojans is 27-13 vs spread in last 40 Pac-10 games, 15-10 in last 25 as road favorite- they won last two visits to Tucson (41-34/45-0) and had 337 rushing yards in last year's 42-21 home win vs UofA. Wildcats are 7-19 vs spread in game after their last 26 wins; they're shaky 2-1 after 28-10 win over I-AA team (was 14-10 at half). Road team is 6-2 vs spread in last eight series games.

Houston is 3-0 vs cupcakes, now steps up in class vs Oklahoma State squad that has also flattened three weak foes. Cougars have senior QB with over 10,000 passing yards; they're 8-4 vs spread in last dozen non-league home games, but just 5-8 in last 13 tries as home dog. Really hard to tell much about this game; Houston plays Texas Tech-style offense. Cowboys beat Tech 24-17 last November, holding Raiders to 338 total yards.

                    Six-Pack for Saturday

-- Chris Young came within two outs of picking up first no-hitter in Padre history Friday night. Joe Randa homered to break up no-hitter, but Young and Padres got a 6-2 win.

-- Back in early days of Padres, Clay Kirby had no-hitter vs Reds but trailed game 1-0, so manager Preston Gomez sent up pinch-hitter for him, and reliever Jack Baldschun gave up a hit in ninth inning to lose no-hitter. Young originally was drafted by Pirates, who traded him to the Expos.

-- This was Young's 68th start, but he clearly ran out of gas in ninth inning. It would have been his first complete game of his career, but Cla Meredith got the last out.

-- Pirates haven't been shut out since Bob Gibson tossed a gem against them in August of '71; imagine no-hitting that Pirate team (Stargell, Clemente, Oliver, Sanguillen)?

-- Mike Piazza hit his first triple since 2002 in this game, the seventh of his long and outstanding career.

-- Quite a week for the Padres, who blew game Tuesday up in LA in epic fashion, allowing four consecutive homers in ninth inning to give up 9-5 lead, but they're recovered well.

Saturday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..............

                      13) I watched Pedro Martinez pitch Thursday, and think he is making gradual progress towards where he wants to be, shutting Florida out for four innings, before they got to him for four runs in the fifth. All in all, a decent start for Pedro.

                      12) Met announcers on SNY were glowing in their praise for Pedro's start, a little bit too much, almost like, "If we say he was great, then he really must have been great." He is nowhere near they need him to be to win a World Series, but he's headed there.

                      11) Later, on the Arizona-San Diego game, Mark Grace was talking about how Met fans should be very worried because Pedro hasn't won a start in so long. From 2,000 miles away, Grace thinks Pedro isn't ready for the playoffs to start.

                      10) Guess it all depends on where you're sitting. If I were a Met fan, I wish the playoffs were little further away than they are, because I'm an A's fan, and Rich Harden is a start behind Pedro in terms of his progress, and I know the A's will need Harden.

                      9) Dodger catcher Russell Martin should get consideration for Rookie of the Year, but he won't, because catcher isn't a glamorous position. Only seven backstops have won the ROY, with Mike Piazza the last to do so.

                      8) Martin's dad played the National Anthem on a saxophone before Wednesday's Dodger game.

                      7) If you had Jeff Francis, Eric Bedard and Adam Leowen as young nucleus of your pitching staff, you'd have a good start to a good staff. All three are Canadians.

                      6) I walk into a Wendy's Thursday, and little kid is eating dinner with his dad. I do a double take; the kid is wearing a black Saints' jersey. Don't see too many of those in Albany, but Reggie Bush is taking the country by storm.

                      5) For the first time ever, all 400 folks on the Forbes 400 list of wealthy people are all worth at least a billion dollars. The Armadillo narrowly missed the top 400.

                      4) There are at least three NBA owners on the list; owners of the Sonics, Rockets and Bobcats are all billionaires. Guy who the Seattle team owns Starbucks, where they sell 40,000,000+ drinks each week. That's a lot of coffee.

                      3) Hopefully A's will clinch the AL West title this weekend; if they do, I will be happiest for Jason Kendall, who before last year, had never played on a team with a winning record. Kendall is a warrior, catching more innings than anyone else this season.

                      2) Last year, his first in the American League, I was amazed at what a slap hitter he was; he had an awful season with the bat, but worked well with the young pitchers the A's had. This year, his bat came alive in the second half. Watching the A's play every day as I do, you can tell what a leader he is, and at long last, he'll be leading his team into the playoffs. Good for him.

                      1) The A's win with pitching and defense; they have second-worst batting average in the AL, but they've had timely hits in second half of season, and have gotten solid contributions from everyone on their roster, including subs like Marco Scutaro, Bobby Kielty and Brad Halsey. Frank Thomas was a God-send, and Billy Beane is the best GM in the history of baseball.

Thank the Lord he isn't driven by money, or else he'd be gone and the A's would be the west coast version of the Pirates.

                          STREAKING PITCHERS

                          Hot streaks:

A.J. Burnett (Toronto Blue Jays) - Burnett is beginning to justify the huge contract he signed with the Blue Jays in the offseason. The right-hander sports a 2.86 ERA in his last three starts with 24 strikeouts in 22 innings. Toronto is listed as a -189 home favorite today against the Boston Red Sox.

Kenny Rogers (Detroit Tigers) - Rogers is quickly dispelling his reputation as a first-half performer, and it couldn`t come at a better time for Tigers backers. With the Tigers in the ***** of the race for the AL Central title, Rogers hasn`t lost since Aug. 12. He has a 2.70 ERA since Sept. 2 and has given up only one big fly this month. Detroit is priced at -173 on the road tonight against the Kansas City Royals.

Erik Bedard (Baltimore Orioles) - Bedard hasn`t lost in a month and the books have taken notice. The Orioles are -145 favorites at home tonight against the Minnesota Twins because of the ace left-hander. Bedard is 3-0 in his last three starts with a 0.90 ERA, having given up only 10 hits in 20 innings.

                          Cold streaks:

Brad Penny (Los Angeles Dodgers) - The season just keeps on getting worse for the Dodgers so-called ace. Penny has a steep 5.60 ERA since Sept. 3 for the Dodgers, set as -167 home favorites tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Jon Lieber (Philadelphia Phillies) - Lieber and the Phillies are priced as huge -201 favorites today against the Florida Marlins. It looks like books forgot to note Lieber`s brutal 6.00 ERA in his last three starts. To make matter worse for Phillies bettors, the former Yankee is winless in day games this season.

Noah Lowry (San Francisco Giants) - The crafty Giants` lefty is the coldest starting pitcher in baseball at the moment. Lowry is winless in September with an absolutely atrocious 16.88 ERA and .474 OBP against. San Francisco is listed as a +130 underdog tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers.

                          Other notables:

Roy Oswalt (Houston Astros) - Oswalt is 8-4 at home this season with a 2.71 ERA.

Carlos Zambrano (Chicago Cubs) - The Cubs` ace is 8-1 away from the friendly confines this season with a 2.79 ERA.

Randy Johnson (New York Yankees) - The Big Unit has posted a 4.82 ERA over his last three starts without giving up a homer.

                              Guys,

I have to leave for a short while and take care of some important business.
There is a little more baseball info to come that is just not out yet.
I think I will be able to update well before the early start times. I hope I didn't just jinx myself!
                              Good luck today!
