I had an awful start last weekend and my top two plays I had planned for this weekend are screwed up because of injuries. So, I'm just posting them as "opinions." I'm going to be conservative with only two rated plays and, by coincidence, both games are in Texas and three of the four teams are from Texas and the fourth is just a few miles from Texas. Yee---ha.
1* UTEP +7
I actually think UTEP wins straight up. This is a veteran team with a bigtime QB (Jordan Palmer, Carson's brother) and last year's leading rusher and receiver also back. The defense has nine returning starters and should be much imroved over last year. Texas Tech's QB is making his first road start. UTEP was very impressive winning on the road against SD State and won't let up in this non-conf game as they play an in-state team from a marquee conference.
1* Texas A & M -20 1/2
Blowout. Lou-Laf is beaten up after playing LSU on the road in an emotional in-state game last week. A & M scores lots of points and Franchione has deliberately scheduled a soft non-conf schedule to get this program on the right track. The purpose is to blow teams out, build up confidence and attract the pollsters' attention. A & M only played a I-AA team last week so there's no letdown factor. There's a huge mismatch on the offensive line here with A & M returning five starters, meaning star RB Lewis may rush for 180.
Opinions only: W Mich/Toledo OVER (would have been a rated play except W Mich's QB is out; I still think they score 65);
Wake Forest (much better than Duke but the QB broke his arm and is out for the year)
Ohio State (if they win they may win the national championship)
