I still can't beleive that the Lakers are getting Payton and Malone. Why play the season? If they are healthy for the whole season then they could win 75 games and i'm serious.


My Celtics are doing nothing but my Bruins from what i hear are trying to work a deal with Detroit sending Martin Lapointe back to Detroit for CUJO. Lapointe was hurt all year for us and Detroit wants him back so with season tickets down and the difference in salary only costing the Bruins an extra 3 million over the next 2 years, I think it could happen...... I was In detroit (at Comerica park) today it really felt like they were gonna get the sweep finished. Got a bit shaky in the ninth with the closer by commitee and Daubauch liner defiently should have been a double but what can I say a huge play defensively and the tigers pulled it out. Their first sweep in around a year, now I just came home and saw how mad the board is so that sux but what can be said but the tigers were due, (Oh yeah and the whitesox lick, alot!!!).

Re: Lakers-I would rather take 3-1 odds with San Antonio or Sacramento to win the NBA Championship than 1.5 with Lakers.
Getting good players from teams which have never won anything does not translate many times into a championship with the new team.
Keep in mind that other teams will not stand still either., and some of Lakers are getting old.
Spurs for my money are still team to beat, and where my money will go if I play futures.

Everyone Phil Jackson teaches turns to gold and if these 4 guys get along and like each other than their toughest games will be the first 20, after that the Chemistry will be dream team like, and once again the WHOLE KEY to that is if they enjoy playing together and avoid injuries........ I agree those odds just are not worth betting but right now i think any other wager than them is a sucker bet because they will be AWESOME.:D

wayne-All I can say is that Steinbrenner has tried to buy championships and has been successful but not all the time.
Sometimes especially in sport like basketball too many good players can get in the way of one another so to speak, i.e. the sum is actually less than the sum fo the parts.
Malone and Peyton have never won anything, and I don't think you can necessarily say that simply because they go to Lakers, that that in itself will make team unbeatable.
If chemistry is there, and each player knows his role and is successful in blending in, then they will be a very good team.
As stated I am sure Spurs and Kings and other teams will improve themselves also.
It is too early to hand anyone the championship, as over the years I have heard so much talk in offseason after trades that such and such a team was a shoo-in for the championship, and many times tha team and certain players on it did not perform up to expectations and team did not win championship for that season.
In short, Lakers will be good, but its a long season and anything can happen.
