This is why, A-hole...you called out the Mets fans so I answered. You were the only one to do so, so you got an answer. If you don't want the answer, then clam your flapping lips. Every night, you are bashing someone or something...everyone has a bad night at some point. SHIT HAPPENS.

That is why you build 15 game leads, so you can throw a couple away and still sleep at night....

Sucks for you that you bet on him...and, oh darn, the lead will now be 14 games.... You live and die on every pitch with every team...teams and players have off nights, and sometimes against bad teams....
Bad nights are one thing but a pitcher like him should never be this bad 6 runs in the 1st great pitchers don't do that, hits 2 batters and a balk are you serious fastball was 86mph, the guys a weak ace for the staff. They are by far the best NL team but teams that won't even make the playoffs in the AL would easliy beat the mets with their second starter versus Pedro.

Cash, first of all, the guy is hurt. Secondly, don't think for a second he is the Pedro of old. I would not term Pedro as 'great' anymore. He is the Mets ace and he is one of the better pitchers in baseball. But 'great' is so overused and he is not anymore. He is very good and had a bad night. Whether they get shelled in one inning, two or three...what does it matter? So giving up 6 ER's in 1 IP is worse than 9 ER in 3 IP's? Getting shelled is getting shelled, no matter how many inning you last or don't. And it happens to everyone at some point.

I hope they keep him out until Mid-September. Give him 3 starts to get ready for the playoffs. While this team is not a great team, it is a relief for it to be Aug. 15 and we can be the only team in baseball to start preparing for the playoffs.

That said, I think they lose first round to the Astros. I just hope Houston gets REALLY hot and wins the division so the Mets do not face them in the Divisional series.

Yes it is worse, if he was to stay 3 innings think of what the score would be then so yes 6 in 1 is worse than 9 in 3 do the math.

I agree. The team that scares me most is Houston. With their pitching if they make the playoffs will be tough.

Ask any pitcher. An injured leg is just as bad as an injured arm. Pitchers generate their power from their legs.

So, I guess you have never had someone have a shit inning and turn it around? If every manager were to follow your logic, why would any manager keep a pitcher in that gave up 2 runs in the first? Following your math, he would give up 18 runs and there would be no reason to keep him around. Hell, your logic indicates someone who gives up 1 run should be yanked,,if you 'do the math' as you state.

Listen, he pitched like shit...I am not defending his outing, but a shit outing is a shit outing. Because he gave up 6 runs in the first does not mean he would give up another 6 in the 2nd and 6 more in the third.

Although i'm not professional, I continued to pitch hardball up until last summer. I blew out my elbow in '99, got Tommy John Surgery and came back stronger than I was before. I also had surgery on my pitching shoulder to scrape out arthritis and was back the next season. Last summer, I tore some cartilage in my knee and haven't pitched since and probably never will again.

Legs are almost everything in pitching. I tried pitching with a slightly tweaked hamstring once and it was agony.

Regarding Pedro...went on the DL today, combination strained calf and bruised ego. As for his one inning start that everyone wants to rip him for, check out this stat...I'd say he was due for a stinker, and he sure did deliver!

Pedro Martinez allowed six runs in only one inning Monday, ending his streak of 289 consecutive starts in which he lasted at least three innings. That was the longest streak of starts going at least three innings for any major league pitcher since Walter Johnson went at least three in 313 straight starts from 1911 through 1919.

Entering the day, the only pitcher with a current streak of going at least three innings even half as long as Pedro's was Roger Clemens, who has done it in each of his last 188 starts (since 2000).

                                Career starts:
                                Mussina 469
                                Martinez 372
