Why is this team considered one of the best in baseball?
I know, I know: they have one of the best records (55-31, soon to be fricking 55-32) and are running away with the AL West. But this team has nothing but starting pitching. The offense is a joke: I wish I had known before taking the Ms tonight at the overpriced level of -180 that Boone was not playing. They have nothing except Suzuki and Boone. Fittingly, Ichiro is 2 for 4, accounting for 40 percent of Seattle's whopping 5 hits.
There just doesn't seem to be any value in heavy favorites this year. The teams that routinely are -150 or greater are Dodger-esque: all pitching and little to no offense. The Yankees, a favorite standby for me in years past, are very inconsistent this year. The Dodgers, Cubs, Mariners and As, perhaps the teams with the best pitching in MLB, have no offense at all, which means you take them on the hope that the pitching will limit the opposition to 2 runs or less (or in the case of the Dodgers, 1 run or less). I have been destroyed this year by favorites, primarily the four teams I mentioned. What happened to the MLB wagering I remember from years past? Arizona with Schilling or Johnson, the Yankees with anyone, or Boston with Pedro, when I could gleefully lay 2-1, 3-1 or even 4-1 without breaking a sweat?
