I rarely, rarely, rarely bet overs, but they can't set this total high enough.
Baseball Plays (+1.91*)
Red Sox (Johnson) @ Devil Rays (Howell) Over 11 (-106)
I mean, this has all the makings of a shootout. Two starters who are the poster boys for contraction take the mound in this one.
Jason Johnson is incredible. As in, incredibly awful. His teams have only won one of his last 14 starts. His last start he went 5 2/3 innings, and gave up 3 earned runs on 9 hits and 2 walks. The problem is, that was his best start in over three months. He brings a 6.29 ERA and 1.75 WHIP into this one. On the road, those numbers are 7.58 and 1.84. You would think I would want to play the Rays here.
I can't. J.P. Howell doesn't look like he's any better. He's only made one start, and that was at the Trop against the Tigers. he went 3 2/3 innings, and gave up 9 hits and 6 earned runs. He'll also face a Red Sox offense that knows they have to score a lot of runs to win with Johnson behind them, and I just don't see any way they don't crush Howell here. Frankly, if they don't, the Red Sox may as well mail in the rest of the season.
Good luck everyone!
