when you rely so heavily on rookies this is what can and will happen.....Lester is talented, but he is not going to be lights out every time.....But you have to beat the lowly indians at home.....seems they spot everyone a few runs.....not a good way to play ball
Wakefield, Clement & Wells on the DL. That's 60% of your rotation. Yes, Wells is one game back.
The staff also lost their All Star heart & Soul catcher who deals with all the pitching. What more is there to know?
we can not lay this on varitek's injury just yet.......I think Maribelli will fill in adequately defensively......needs to get some hits....Varitek is having an off year anyways, but still has come up big in spots.......How big of an influence he is with that staff I am sure can be debated to what degree....Maribelli has played in long stretches before......Sometimes when someone goes down the player covering for him ups his game be it only short term....which is all we need.......Why we made no moves is beyond me??? I know theo is smart and maybe there was nobody dealing and it was a bad market....but we look dead in the water at the moment

I could care less about Varitek's bat. Pitching and confidence go hand and hand and i'm sure they have more confidence in Varitek calling a better game. It hasn't been long since the injury but the Sox pitching already looks lost w/out him!

i disagree about not caring about his bat....He is a quality offensive player who is having a bad year....He has ended many innings this year hitting into an inordinate amount of double plays....Granted most catchers main responsibility is to handle the staff ( i caught through college).....It may effect the youngsters more since they have come to rely on varitek...My main point is that Maribelli is a pro, who is more than capable of handling that staff and i do not think the dropoff is catastrophic.....JMHO....
Is Lesters performance directly related to Variteks absence tonight? Very very hard to say...Much too early to make that drastic of a comment with such a small body of work.....One thing i know about us red sox fans (me included)...we have many knee jerk reactions.......
