  • 4 Good young pitchers = two decent unders

    Baseball Plays (+2.90 units)

All are pitching well, and I don't feel any of these pitchers are getting the respect they deserve here.

Felix Hernandez vs. Baltimore - His 4.61 ERA and 5.18 ERA are both deceiving, as he suffered a bit of a sophomore slump at the beginning of the season. Recently, he's been very good, with a 3.26 ERA last five starts, and his last three road starts have all been quality outings as well. The guy was untouchable last year, and he's approaching that again.

Eric Bedard vs. Seattle - Since adding a changeup, Bedard has been the best pitcher in the league. He had won 7 straight starts, and was in line for #8 before the pen blew it. In his last 50 innings, Bedard has given up only 6 earned runs (an ERA of slightly over 1) and 31 hits.
He is 7-1 with a 2.76 ERA at home, and it's even better than that recently. Oh, did I mention the Mariners are last in runs scored against LHP?

Jeremy Sowers vs. Boston - Sowers is facing a tough lineup here, but it is one that is significantly better against RHP and will be missing Varitek again. Anyway, Sowers has pitched consecutive complete game shutouts, and while it would be foolish to expect that again at Fenway, he should have at least a quality outing.

John Lester vs. Cleveland - The Indians also struggle with lefties a bit, and they face a good one in Lester, who is coming off consecutive poor outings. Before that, though he had been very good, and Fenway has been good to him, as he carries a 3.16 home ERA into this one.

Mariners (Hernandez) @ Orioles (Bedard) Under 9 (-106)
Cleveland (Sowers) vs. Boston (Lester) Under 10 (+108)

One change, with the A's performance tonight, they now average slightly less runs per game against lefties, so Seattle is second worst in the league.

Not that anyone really cares, but I don't see why everyone is so in love with the Mets at only +110 or so in Florida tomorrow. The only thing that would be any concern is Nolasco was totally rocked at Shea, but his home numbers are very good, and I like his chances of getting another win tomorrow. Trachsel has been a total disaster lately after an earlier hot stretch.

    Anyway, good lck everyone!

I had a GOY on Sowers in his first major league start and he lost. Since then, the guy's been an ace. Go figure. I guess I had him right, just not at the right time....Good luck,

Yeah Kaz, when he's throwing strikes he's really impressive. 19 consecutive scoreless innings right now - you don't hear that too often.

I saw this typo - the 5.18 is FH's road ERA.

Is the Mets Marliuns a rematch of the same pitchers? If it is play the exact opposite....I will if this can be verified

No, Nolasco started against Pelfrey, who pitched for the Mets last night. I still like the idea of playing Florida and under.

If Sowers has thrown two complete games, he's due to get lit up....Don't you think?

A lot of people seem to think so by the way this line is moving. I don't believe in that kind of thing. I mean, Bedard has been due to get lit up for two months now, but it hasn't happened, and I'm going to try to keep taking advantage of his current form. The same goes for Sowers as long as he is pitching well.
