LONDON (Reuters) -- Tour de France winner Floyd Landis has given a positive drugs test for the male sex hormone testosterone, his Phonak team said on Thursday.

"The Phonak Cycling Team was notified yesterday by the UCI of an unusual level of testosterone/epitestosterone ratio in the test made on Floyd Landis after stage 17 of the Tour de France," Phonak said in a team statement

Tour de France winner flunks drug test

Tour de France champion Floyd Landis tested positive for high levels of testosterone during the race, his Phonak team said Thursday.

The statement came a day after the UCI, cycling's governing body, said an unidentified rider had failed a drug test during the Tour.

The Swiss-based Phonak said in a statement on it Web site that it was notified by the UCI Wednesday that Landis' sample showed "an unusual level of testosterone/epitestosterone" when he was tested after stage 17 of the race last Thursday.

"The team management and the rider were both totally surprised of this physiological result," the statement said.

Phonak said Landis would ask for analysis of his backup "B" sample "to prove either that this result is coming from a natural process or that this resulting from a mistake."

Landis has been suspended pending the results. If the second sample confirms the initial finding, he will be fired from the team, Phonak said.

If they developed more sophisticated testing which could overcome the masking agents, they would probably find that all of those guys are on something.

The body just isn't built to do what those guys do.

I had a $40 bet on Landis to win $320 at Pinnacle. They paid the bet off last weekend to my account.

Does anyone know if they will reversed it if he's found guilty and stripped of the first place finish?

If they graded the event as official, I would think they couldn't do anything.

For instance, how would they handled schools who ended up forefeiting an entire season of victories due to an ineligible player?
